Looking for advice. HGV Clips my van and doesn't stop.

I think report it to police as hit and run. That's an offence isn't it. Jon can press charges can't he? Doesn't have to be for a pay out. The driver needs points...
 
The guy had been up his arse for a while before this. Any driver doing that is more than keepin an eye on where his wheels are imho
Yes. He was. And trying to get past. I knew the road narrows and the outside lane has the feed left arrow. I accelerated to try to get out of the way but so did he and moved over to clip the wheel arch of my van. Then shot past. I head and felt the bump.

I sort of agree. But he will claim he never heard or felt it so didn’t know. I feel the cops will accept that story.
 
Play it straight. Contact the Police and tell them you've had a ' fail to stop RTC'. Get the incident number off them and ask for the Oic to contact you for collection of the footage. Report it to your insurer too and give them the Inc. Number.
The OIC will carry out the relevant enquiries regarding insurance of the other party and who was driving
Trouble with that is the insurance sees it as a claim even if you simply notify them and they don’t pay a penny.
I fell for the ‘you must notify us of any incident even if you do not claim’ BS when someone grazed my bumper when parking.
Didn’t need a repair, just a polish that I did myself.
Came to renew and my company said I’d had a claim in the last five years.
We argued a notification is not the same as a claim but they can’t compute the difference.
I see it as yet another way of them maximising profit at our expense.

reg check gives it as a forty four tonner.
he wont have felt a thing,especially as it just looks like a slight tyre rub.
it appeared you sped as he got to your side?
physics tells me 2 tonne v 44 tonne = 1 winner.

is the panel creased?
or can/will it just polish out??

having looked at the pics , yeah its creased :(,
if its a 30mph limit, then its self incriminating video,you touch 39 as it comes along side.
if its a 40 limit , then no worries

Agree that he'll feign ignorance and that it's plausible for him to claim ignorance, so a prosecution for a driving conviction would seem unlikely. However, insurers work on a lower threshold of proof than a criminal conviction requires - "balance of probabilities" vs "beyond reasonable doubt" - so I reckon you have enough evidence for his insurer to accept liability (especially if you have a recent van pic that shows no damage, as this limits the timeframe for when the damage could have occurred).

It's all well and good trying to avoid a premium increase, but there's no point having insurance if you're not prepared to claim... besides, it'll be a condition of your policy that you report any incident to them within xx hours (usually 24 or 48), so if you try and chase the haulage company and your insurer subsequently find out, any delay in informing them could cause you issues.

Well, technically insurance a legal requirement, not a choice (not that some people see it that way).

Notifying your insurer will increase your premium whether you claim or not, and even if it’s not your fault - they don’t make that distinction.
 
Does the footage evidence speeding? A lazy cop may take an easy conviction!

Technically, RTA cover is a legal requirement. All other levels of cover are optional.

And, yes, a non-fault accident can impact your premium, but a first non-fault is usually ignored. This reflects the fact anyone can be involved in a non-fault accident, but when a driver is involved in multiple non-fault accidents, that brings into question either their roadcraft or the areas in which they drive.

You have uploaded "similar" videoes on your youtube channel.
Its sort of gives off the impression of being a 'youtube dashcam vigilante'.
The one with the orange transit you posted is interesting,
i bet there is more to that video than meets the eye.
However the other hgv one you have uploaded on the M60 is truly truly SHOCKING.
I would start asking "why always me?"

Honestly there is nothing more in the Orange one. If you drive on the M60 you would not believe in the standard of driving. I could post loads more up, not involving me. There are accidents nearly every day, and I would estimate recently 1 every other week that completely shuts 1 carriageway (sometimes both).
Maybe I have just been unlucky, or are you trying to say I was at fault for the M60 one?

I would say on the (this) video there is an element of some cat and mouse.
Stop playing with fire with 44 tonne hgvs ffs.
If i didn't know better , the other hgv (video) looked like he may be he wanted that slip road but couldn't on it.
Its a jungle out there .

I was once having a friendly argument with my Mum about her iffy driving standards.

She was quite affronted and said, "Ill have you know I've never been in an accident!"

To which I replied, "yeah, but you've seen plenty in your rear view mirrors."

Before should stop herself she said, "ooh, yes!" She then realised what she'd said and sulked in that manner that only mothers can manage.

I do understand, Jon. I’m just playing devil's advocate and being hyper-cynical. Be wary of a “lazy” copper who might take the “easy detection/investigation” route to hit his numbers. It’s the same non-judgmental advice I’d give a mate.
