Leaking near engine/gearbox - buy or not?

Hi guys,

I'm not giving up with the attempts of buying my first van. Yesterday I tested this https://m.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/details.html?id=438285252

It drives well, no questions. The body is in a good condition. It was used by the delivery company in Denmark. The millage and price look also reasonable. The only thing i found in this leaking oil.. The dealer told it is just a engine gasket which has to be changed.. He told they fix it if I buy, but it sounds suspicious..

What do you think guys what it can be? And how expensive the fix might be?

It’s obviously been leaking for a long time as you can see where it has been cleaned off.
It appears to be gear oil which means the level would have dropped and that could have caused damage.
It’s not a good indicator for a well maintained vehicle, keep looking and avoid even if they offer to repair.

EDIT: just noticed there seems to be two oil leaks, at the free end it probably the crankshaft seal, that’s a common but expensive repair.

Thank you for the advice! I didn't pay attention to that! I appreciate your answer!

I wonder how such a leaking problem could have arisen, what could be the reason? Lack of service, defective part since the beginning?

I'd walk away, but well done for carrying out a proper, thorough inspection before buying, I suspect many people would have found out too late about the leaks.
Engine undertrays make it more difficult to spot these issues.
I've no idea why dealers think they can fob us off with promises to fix faults later, it's pathetic, they only do it because people allow them to. I wouldn't.

True.. well maybe those people have no problem with money..

Btw, there is a law in EU that the dealers are obliged to give a 1 year guarantee for a second hand cars. And if the seller fix it and in the contract we write that there is no leaks and there is no issues, then if it starts leaking - I can go to fix it and the dealer will pay.
But it will probably cost me a lot of efforts and stress..
