J927 door control module failure

Ref my soft close problem (now fixed by VW under warranty) they said it was the J927 module that got too hot and failed because of the recycled bottle insulation I had behind it.

So seemingly my fault though they had no problem replacing it under warranty.

Haven't done too much digging yet but as far as I can see this is a sealed, solid state computer brain that only does anything when you're opening and closing the door. The VW tech said it was hot to the touch.

Surely it got hot because it failed rather than failed because it was in a very slightly warmer environment (in winter) than usual?

Auto close motors pop up here a lot.

We've seen them failing, getting hot. Burning out and even catching on fire.

I suppose they are under a lot of strain, especially with a cold low battery, with low voltage.

..

They are designed to site in that void with air around... So maybe having it wrapped up in cosy warm installation may as to the overheating problem.

Maybe leave a 2 inch air gap around it and see how you get on?

Thanks yeah, that's not even the motor, just a computer brain, the motor's in the door. VW took some of my insulation out (and I'll take a bit out on the other side just in case they're right).

But personally I think it's pure bollox that it overheated because of the insulation, wondered what others thought.

I'm actually surprised they didn't try and charge for the replacement seeing as they put it down to the insulation causing the problem.
