Intermittent starting issue t6

OK so my 2017 t6 has a starting issue.
A local garage told me it was showing crankshaft sensor which I have now had changed but the issue is still the same.
I have a cheap diagnostic machine, when it won't start, I plug it in to read for faults and nothing shows but the the van starts straight after. Anyone have any ideas or experienced something similar? Beginning to loose patients with the van as it seems to be something all the time

Your scanner may be missing the codes that actually are present. It is common for that to occur.

Just had a call from the garage and there's no codes showing. I asked if the problem has occured while they've had it and sods law it hasn't (yet) . I've told them to keep hold of it for now and keep trying so they can read live data when it does.
Any ideas??

It will be interesting to see if the same or another code shows up. Cam/crank synchronization.... could be lots of things.

Seen that thread, thanks for sharing. If my timing was out wouldn't the drive/performance be poor?
I can get the van started (when it plays up) and drives perfect. Even the garage it's in now have commented on how well it runs. At the moment it has started fine whilst they've had it which is typical so they haven't been able to read live data when the fault occurs ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What I mean is, if there was any discrepancy in any of the sensors signals during cranking it may cause your problem. I don't mean your timing is not correct.

Have you watched the video in this post?

It explains why some slow start issues will not throw up an error code where oil is draining away but once pressure builds up again all appears normal. It may not be the same issue you’ve got but it shows the importance of finding a garage that can diagnose properly and not just plug in a code reader.
