Interior light switching - positive or negative?

Hi

I have recently installed a halo roof into my T6 van I added some additional spotlights that run directly to my leisure battery, I have put two extra spots in the centre of the van for when the passengers go in to the van. I am trying to get it to run on the original VW electrics however I cannot get it to turn off once the engine has started? If I lock the van the lights go off and open the van the lights come on‍ But won’t go off once started. Can anyone help?

Sounds like you connected to the permanent positive and permanent negative, the positive will only go off when you lock the van (or will time out eventually)
In the original wiring loom to the interior lights theres a plain brown which is perm negative and a brown with a stripe and this is the door switched negative and the one you want to connect too
