Help With T32 340mm Brakes and Pad Contact

My brother and I have just replaced the front large 340mm calipers on both sides of my T32, along with new discs and pads too.

Turns out it was the passenger side caliper which was binding and we had a real job getting the caliper off as one piston was seized. Driver side was fine though, but replaced that too as had bought a pair of recon ones and have a little bit more peace of mind.

All went fine with except that, after doing 20 or 30 miles gently testing, the passenger side pad doesn’t appear to be contacting the knee half of the disc as in the photo below.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? Does it just need more miles to bed in? Cheers for any advice guys.

I’m no expert, only had the calipers off once, but did you clean and grease the guide pins? I think if they stick then the top of the pad won’t return fully and then next brake application the pad will already be closer to the pad on the top edge if that makes sense.
Also, I might not even be correct, but I remember there was a reason why I had to clean and grease them at the time.

Cheers for the response. Yes, we used brake cleaner on the sliders and then greased them before refitting.

Check the clip plates, some aftermarket ones are not shaped quite the same as OEM and don't pull everything in line properly. It is possible to re-shape them - had to do it with mine using a pic on google for reference 😂

That’s a good shout and actually what we were also thinking of checking out tomorrow after work as if it wasn’t quite fitted right then it would pull the caliper as tightly forward and could produce this effect.

These are the OEM ones that were already in the vehicle. Can I assume that these do not need to be replaced every time?

See this post re the spring clips....

Thank you for taking the time to add that link.

I did a search before posting this thread and saw that. It was a fair shout but I know the clips were put in the right place as otherwise they don’t actually do anything.

The other side is absolutely fine, with only passenger side not making full contact.

I plan to take the wheel off later to inspect the clip, to make sure there’s no deformity, then reseat and try again. 🤞🏽

They shouldn't need to be replaced every time. Easy to tell if it's the problem, my calipers had a lot of movement in them when fully fitted until re-working the clips

Took the clip off earlier and there sure is plenty of movement as you say. Refitted and they are solid, so I am confident that the clip is fine.

Driven another 10 miles or so and the painted section is gradually moving further down the disc. I think the pad must just be uneven perhaps as it looks like it’s very close indeed when eyeballing with wheel off.

Will drive more and monitor it for a few days before taking any further action.
