Heated windscreen or not?

Hi there all you knowledgeable volks folks.

I'm speccing a new T6.1 Shuttle and after a bit of advice. Planning on this being a keeper so a heated windscreen sounds lovely but it's £500 and can't be had without the lights & vision pack which is another £300. That would pay for a lot of de-icer.

Coming in at a bargain £54 are heated washer jets, which I guess are simply to stop them freezing, but does anyone have any experience of these things in terms of saving a frost scrape?

Cheers.

Hi....what ever you spec on the VW price tool will always seem expensive but I’ve found face to face transactions prove cheaper...
heated screen works really well....if the light and vision pack includes LED lights then get them
best way is to price up a wish list option and also do price list without ...then go to dealer and haggle ...don’t forget different dealerships offer different prices... it’s your money make them work for it

ps ...de-icer is not always paint friendly

heated screen is my favourite addition on the T6 . . .

coming from a T5 & T5.1

i wouldn't be without it now.

100% worth it.

A heated screen on a normal car is nice to have, but I can easily reach to scrape the screen on a normal car.
I can't with a T6. (I stand on the front wheel to wash it, not doing that on a frosty morning!!)
It's worth the money. I wouldn't buy one without a heated screen.

With such a huge windscreen, I couldn’t do without it. To scrape in the winter, I had to stand on the front wheel, and hold on to the top of the bonnet on my 5.1. With the 6 and 6.1, with HFS, the windscreen is defrosted before the mirrors are. However, mine are standard kit!!!

How do they stand up to stones - I recall a few posts about broken windscreens and all seemed to be heated - might be worth a search?

I've no experience of LED headlights to comment on their value (assuming they are part of the light and vision package) but the heated screen is hands down the most useful option on my T6.

LED lights and heated screen... It's a no brainer... Spec the same van up using autoebid and see the price difference...

LED’s and heated screen for £800 is a bargain. That’s a box you won’t regret ticking when dark and frosty at 7am:(

There is an assumption the upgraded light pack is LEDs - might just be H7s ! Would be worth clarifying - if they are LEDs tick the box!!

Answered my own question. Just googled it and the Lights and Vision pack DOES NOT inc LEDs, it's just auto headlights and wipers.

‘Hit the brakes’ LED’s are £1300 lights and vision is auto wipers/lights

Dig deep and go for the LED lights, if you don't you will live to regret it if you do any night driving.

If you are reasonably fit you can scrape the window on the few mornings that it freezes, unless of course you live in a very cold part of the UK. You are quite likely to drive in the hours of darkness at any time of the year. I know the difference between Halogen & LED headlights, I've got both.

Thanks all. These are the kind of replies I was hoping for. (Well, they’re not - I wanted to hear that £800 for a heated screen was an absurd extravagance, not the best option ever. Box ticked). Still getting the heated jets.

I've read here about the lights, but apparently standard is much better than before; the dealer has stopped insisting that his customers spec an upgrade (box not ticked). As mentioned, lights & vision pack is for stuff I could easily do without and certainly doesn’t include LEDs.

I’ve already seen a decent discount but Crikey!

Interestingly in their price list VW UK hasn't included the following options for the T6.1 factory installed auxiliary coolant heater:
7VE - a heater control panel which effectively turns the factory installed auxiliary coolant heater over to parking heater.
7VL - a remote control for the above.
The above mentioned option(s) would allow switch on the aux. heater before starting the engine - thus heating up the cabin and melting frost.

Ooh, it didn’t occur to me to warm the van...
There is a heater option of some sort, back to the configurator for me.
