Has Anyone Got The "second Maintenance Free Battery" Option?

The guy at Corwallis VW assures me this is a leisure battery with a split charge system. Just wondered if anyone has it, if so is it any good?
 
A few have, but split charge relay is not the best charging option on these vehicles with regenerative braking.
A few have changed the split charge relay for a DC-DC charger.
 
Yes its a factory second battery for connecting Leisure related equipment.

Normally fitted under the seat depending on the type of van.



They have started fitting EFB+ battery's and still use a split-charge-relay (SCR) setup.

Its worth getting the factory fit kit, then upgrading the SCR to a DC-DC charger if reqd (as @Loz mentioned)

As discussed earlier, the first B2B manufacturer to include a prewired Type-100 relay plug will steal the market - or they would if only they were listening! :)

Maybe @travelvolts could do his kits with the 100amp relay plug-and-play kits like the Cali kits? (as an option)

i had to get the extra bits to make the Cali kit fit for our Panel van.
 
Thanks for the Replies, so it’s just a regular split charge relay? Is a Dc - Dc charger the same as a battery to battery charger? I’ve seen them on 12Volt planet web site. I was gonna get one for my sprinter but never did.

I was led to believe a SCR wouldn’t work at all on my euro 5 sprinter because the alternator output wasn’t constant. So if I go ahead with the factory fit battery am I right in saying that it’ll work but won’t charge the leisure battery fully?
 
So is a battery to battery charger easy enough to fit? Just swap it for the SCR? I have an eMTB so would like to be able to plug an inverter in.
 
When ordering new van,went through with factory fitted 2nd battery . I don't know how vw did it, but the main battery (lead acid) charges to 80% (12.4v) and the 2nd battery ( agm) fully charges to 12.9v. I am very pleased , because no - one could tell me whether it would be that way or not. I should have known VW wouldn't let me down. Cheers.

Do you have start/stop on the van?

I'm assuming you have the second battery under the seat and have a factory split charge relay.?
 
Starter battery is an EFB (liquid) and the 2nd battery is AGM , under passenger seat.
T6 ordered with optional 2nd battery factory fitted.......and yes, it has stop/start.....but I switch it off each time I drive.

I would have thought you would have both AGM batteries . . . . . Or the EFB would be the second battery under the seat.

What van & MY have you got.
 
My starter and aux battery are both AGM.
 
VW Transporter T6 lwb Tdi340. MY 2018 ........interesting desciption of Vw setup on Jerbacampervans UK website under electrics heading...... previous vans 2005 T5..2008 T5...2012 T5.1.....none had stop.start. or 2nd battery,but had optional factory fitted larger battery option, when ordered.
So far so good with latest setup....works perfectly for camping....

I've got.

Starter: 110ah varta AGM

Aux: 70ah varta EFB+ (was Moll)


Also I had a factory leisure battery in the T5.1.
 
That's funny.......that's the complete reversal of mine......starter Moll EFB+..70 ah.............Aux Varta AGM 110ah.
I wonder which ones right and which ones wrong.....ha ha ha......hopefully both correct...ha ha ha
