Hankook Tyres Cracking

My wife has a 2023 t6.1 with 16k miles, today I was checking tyres for tread depth and noticed one tyre is cracking down the centre, the tyres are Hankook Ventus S1evo3 they were fitted by main VW agent when the van was a few months old.
I can’t believe they are safe to drive on so Monday I plan to get a new set of 4, but having now lost confidence in Hankook quality what would anyone recommend, also could it be related to tyre load or pressures set wrong by dealer?
I have attached a photo

How many mm of tread left?

Id be pretty narked at having 5 or 6mm remaining if they were cracking like that, but if they're, say, down to 3mm theyre worn out and in need of repladement anyway.

What is the load rating shown on the side of the tyre?
S1 evo are primarily a car tyre although they do XL versions which should be alright for most transporters (may depend on on whether t28 or t32).

My Hankooks on the van were 104 (commercial) and when they got to 7 years old they had some very minor cracks on the sidewalls - which you expect at that age and would have passed an MOT as no cord showing. I fancied a change though and wasn’t waiting until they were 10 years old (which some places say is the age limit now).

Any company is within their rights to refuse to a vehicle if it goes against their policies, however in the UK there is no age limit on Class 4 / 5 tyres unless there is capacity to carry more than 8 passengers.

6 years once in daily use is a safe yardstick, particularly on heavy or high performance vehicles. 10 absolute max on undemanding low mileage vehicles where the tyres are stored away from UV (such as in a dark garage.)

Sadly, as DXX rightly points out, the laws are very lax on this aspect of tyres in the UK.

Paul Walker is a sad illustration of what barely worn but 9 year old tyres can do for your future prospects.

What’s the date of manufacture?
The tyre will have the date on the side which will be the week and year of manufacture so something like 2342 which would be week 42 in 2023.
If they are not so old them I’d be having a conversation with Hankook. Usually best initiated on X and they will very quickly try to take it private. That’s how her indoors starts her complaints procedures anyway. I don’t do X or any of those things but it usually works for her lol.

I think I may go for continental, the Hankooks were fitted by vw main agent so I would expect them to fit correct tyres for vehicle.

What tyre pressure do you all use, my wife’s van is a 2023 T6.1 swb

Are you sure that the affected tyre hasn’t been run under pressure? Do you have TPMS set up?
You asked what tyre pressures others are using, what are you using?
Odd that only one of four are affected.
Unlikely that it’s a tyre defect, Hankook are not a new on the block manufacturer.

Have you got a picture of that tyre a bit further out (not so close up)…. the tread looks worn out??

Also - is that seam cracking all the way round or just in a patch?
Could indicate whether that tyre was parked in a chemical puddle ?

This has been a common theme on a Tiguan forum. This is one of mine. 4.5 years old, but only 16k miles. The nearside isn't as bad, maybe because that side is mostly parked along side a wall.
