Glow plug light, no limp mode and 20 error codes

Hello all,

Hoping for abit of help, just brought a t6 and she’s throwing up a whole host of error codes.

The glow plug light comes on , but only from cold. Restart and it goes and doesn’t come back on until the engine is cold again. No limp mode problem. 40d388f9-5501-4d71-be2d-120170cad2a9.webp43b2bef2-d9ca-4cd7-ad16-1cfcd03424ba.webpc730a32e-77b1-411f-80e0-56c1736ae277.webp

It was a private sale… so I think theres fat chance of that! Pretty wounded. Any ideas on the fault ?

Does your code reader tell you when the fault codes were last cleared?

I’d be bold as brass taking that back, don’t care if it’s a private sale.

Get some big mates and pile round in morning.

I had the faults cleared today, it’s came back.. so going back tomorrow for a reread and I guess I’ll go from there. My hope is it’s not as bad as it looks to be honest but I’m no expert.

It’s not a bad shout, I’m pretty pissed off!

The glow plug light does come on at cold but should go out as soon as the vans started.

Have “all” the error codes come back?

Do you have access to a voltmeter? Or does your code reader display the battery voltage?
A low battery can cause lots of error codes (but not usually those ones) and if the guys been selling it there’s a chance it’s been stood around. Might need a new battery.

It remains on solid after starting, only goes out when I restart it. Then when the vans cold again… pops back on, No limp mode or anything.

As for which ones come back.. not sure until tomorrow, these pictures are from the first reading today. I don’t have a volt meter but I’ll certainly bring it up tomorrow.

I’d at least be sending the seller a message tonight telling them what you’ve found and that you’re not happy.

It’s a tough one as they might genuinely have had no idea if it starts and drives fine. It’s not like we all plug our code readers in once a week. Or they knew and that’s why they were selling…

You can only try, and could try through the civil courts but you’ve got the prove there was a serious fault pre-existing…

“Generally” when you get a shed load of unrelated codes, it’s usually something simple and not actually related to any of the codes. A low voltage/dying battery/poor earth (check the engine earth strap)/damaged wiring etc. it probably looks worse than it is.

Well that makes me feel better!

Like I say I’m completely fresh to VW’s… the first one I’ve had 😂

I’ve got it booked in Friday for the switch to be swapped out… hopefully that’s the end of it and not the start.. weird it would throw up all those codes though ?

Did the swapping of the switch work?
I have had the glow plug warning light come on randomly. 2 fault codes which are nox sensor and oil pressure switch
Occasionally the start stop comes on but also very randomly
been quoted £750 for a geniune nox sensor so keen to explore all other avenues first!!!!

That sounds like a power issue, what state /age is the battery?

So weirdly, I’ve just had my Nox sensor changed separately for an adblue issue.. see my other post. Buts its now fixed… £350 ish…nowhere near that much.

The glow plug issue went when I had the oil pressure sensor changed.

The two of these of these cost me probably 500-550.

Nothing mate all clear.

I did the battery and sensor at the same time. Then couples months later I’ve had ad blue issue which did throw up a sensor fault which I sorted last week so I don’t think related.
