gas leak

Using the washing up liquid method, I have discovered that my camping gas is leaking when turned on by the red knob...the leak is evident by the bubble shown in the first image.

Is the leak likely to be a fault in the attachment that screws onto the bottle, or the large nut on the end of the tube that takes the gas to the cooker? And how easy is it to replace the offending item.?

Thanks for your help

If you remove the red cap. Is there another nut you could tighten up.
Is the bubbles coming from the top of the red cap or along where the nut joins.

No expert on gas fittings other than years of camping experience but the brass nut joins the hose to the valve and you could try nipping it up with a spanner. If that doesn’t help the hose should just connect to a regulator and could be replaced fairly easily.

Thanks for the replies. The leak is round the big nut which I always finger tighten then nip up with a spanner. Just trying to ascertain which of the two elements is allowing the escape... the pigtail or the adaptor that sews into the bottle.

The big nut on the end of the pigtail has no rubber washer

is it meant to have a washer or are they the cone shaped fittings

I think you are onto the problem.
There’s no way a brass on brass fitment will seal without a rubber washer or the use of some ptfe tape.
I suspect the rubber washer has fallen out of the big nut on the hose.

Out of interest what size is the rubber washer? I lost the one in my van a while back and I couldn’t find a replacement anywhere.
Fortunately I found a replacement in my Man-drawer in the kitchen, but I would like a spare.
Thanks
