Hi all, so I took my 2016 T6 to a local independent for a full service and to change the injector seals as 2x were leaking slightly. They have done this but now are saying they can't get the van to start and dont know why this it. I have left it with them but any ideas what they have done to my van? Thanks

Not sure if I am 100% correct
But don't you have to code the injectors after they have been removed?
Try checking on the forum for resetting injectors

What injector seals?

What was the issue before?

Injectors don't need to be recoded, provided they are refitted in same location.

Only need coding off they are replaced.

Note, cylinder 3 to is special with the in cylinder pressure sensor.

It was all four of the injector seals as far as I'm aware. Two were leaking but I asked for all of them to be changed. They said they went back in the location they came out of, they also said they have fuel to the injectors at the right pressure, the coding is correct, timing is correct but it's just not starting. I have dropped off my spare key as they wanted to eliminate a problem with the immobiliser and they have an auto electrician coming tomorrow.

They also mentioned something about breaking a fuel pipe or something like that as it was corroded but they replaced it.

I‘ve seen ‘mechanics’ with a very small ‘m’ put grease on the seals and wonder why the engine won’t start. The grease blows out as the engine cranks and there is insufficient compression for ignition.
The seal should go in dry.

im still not following this. . . . ?

who said they was leaking? - what was the symptoms?

diesel smell from the engine bay?

white or grey smoke from the engine bay?

.....

smoke out the exhaust?

I've not come across this yet on the T5 or T6,

.

Hi yes those are the parts. I had black (assumed to be oil?) pooling in the recess on the rocker. Cleaned It up but it came back so I asked the garage to take a look whilst it was in for a service.

If all they have done is remove the injectors, replace the seals, refit the injectors and bleed the fuel system it should be straight forward to diagnose the issue.
Either way it’s not your problem, the van went in running, now it doesn’t. They need to repair it at their cost or get somebody who can.
It shouldn’t cost you a penny more that what you agreed to pay.
The clamp bolts are single use high tensile and should have been replaced.

Update. The garage have had a 'specialist' in and have said the fuel pump isn't giving enough pressure ( I think they said it was giving 300bar) so have sent it away for a repair/replacement at their cost. I can't see how taking the injectors out & putting back in and changing the fuel filter could cause the pump to fail when it was fine before? Any ideas?

whaaaaaat . . .

oh dear, thats not good.

HPFP failure?

that's normally a full fuel system flush and possible injector damage from metal filings from the pump. ( so injector referbs )

lets hope its all sorted for you.

++++++++

though not sure how you ended up with this, , ,

HPFP run dry?
airlock in fuel system?
contaminants in fuel system when pipes open?

No idea what they have done to cause it but that sounds worrying. How will I know if they have done further damage if they replace the pump and get it started?

if its all running fine when you get it back, then thats good.

+++++++++++++

who knows what happened after you dropped it off.

as long as they fix it.

HPFP is normally the start of a chain reaction that covers the injectors and full fuel system.

but all covered in the above links.

more info here about Rail pressure. . . .

you said yours was: 300bar ( 30000kpa)

thats normal for tickover . . . ?

from these we can see, . . .

Engine tick over @ 900rpm we get about 30,000Kpa rail pressure.

so. . . . .

cranking the engine @ 800rpm,

you could expect about 30000kpa rail pressure. (300bar)

thats normal. . . .

but without diagnostic data from your van we have no way of telling whats going on in regards to a "crank no start" -- :(

Update 2. Nothing wrong with the fuel pump so they sent the injectors off to be tested and all 4x are seized. The company who tested them said they have seen it before where swarf is present but hasn't blocked anything and then when the injectors have been disturbed they have seized. So it seems 4x new injectors heading my way courtesy of the garage.
