Full conversion or gradual

With the help of the forum we've just ordered out new t6, it should be with us in the new year.

I've had a quote to do a full conversion with off grid electrics, diesel heater, pop top, slide pod. Essentially everything I can envisage us a family needing for lots of camping/holidays next year but still giving us the use as a van.

I was wondering from people that have done a full conversion all at once, would you do it again or world you take a more gradual approach and do things bit by bit?

On the other hand have the people that have done it gradually wished they'd done all in one go?

Thanks in advance

We bought a Kombi and used it as holiday transport and went camping in a tent with it over a 12 month period before getting it converted all at once. During this time we looked at what a few converters could do and also considered doing it a bit at a time (some of it ourselves). Also, being in the van made it easier to approach other T6 owners (on campsites, shows, being on this Forum etc) to have a more meaningful discussion about their conversions. For us, our time was consumed by work and family, so we decided that getting it done by one converter all at once would give us a camper that we could use without constant down-time.

I recommend that you think ahead with planning the timing of your conversion because converters seem to have busy periods which inevitably will be when you will want yours done!

I wish you well with your conversion.

Thanks, Cyrmo.

That is one option we're considering. I've been thinking about going round some local dealers and looking at some conversions. I'm fairly confident I know what we want. (Had a t5 pre kids so I'm not a complete newbie). The kombi will mainly be used as a family vehicle for days out, walking, biking, surfing ect. For this reason I don't want the full traditional camper setup.

We're thinking slidepod and poptop, that way the slidepod can sit in the garage most of time, when we do a camping trip / holiday we can pop it in the van and sleep all 4 of us. The poptop will allow me and son to go biking weekends, lots of room in the van for bikes and still sleep 2 of us. The conversion would also include all the standard insulation, carpeting, electrics,, heater ect.

Thinking out loud here, if we do want to change it the slidepod isn't a permanent feature so will be easy to change.

The van isn't coming until
Q1 next year so a bit of time to give it more thought.

Thanks again.
