Flashing Coil Light when going up hills? No other symptoms or error codes.

I've looked at other threads with the same light, but they all appear to have other issues with it and error codes, i have none.

This has been happening for some time, only occurs on hills with foot down, take foot off and it stops.

I have an OBD reader and there are no error codes

There appear to be no related issues, no limp mode / loss of power or anything?

Would plugging in to something better than a simple obd reader give me any more info?

Thanks

Dave

I think that coil light can come on with fuel pressure issues, I have DTUK tuning box on my Tiguan and occasionally it will flash the coil light. quick spray of switch cleaner and replug and the issue goes away. VCDS always show fuel pressure issue. of course the DTUK is in the middle so i know it's the cause and i know the resolution.

VCDS or similar would show you the issue if logged.

Ok thank you. Gives me somewhere to look :)

Hi Dave

Did you find the issue here? I seem to have very similar, just only when accelerating when the engine is cold - no errors etc

Thanks

Not yet. I need to get it plugged in somewhere. It doesn’t cause any issues and I’ve had it a couple of years so it’s not urgent. Next time I’m in the garage I’ll get it looked at

This happened to me on a big incline, there was a split in the turbo intercooler body. It eventually started to put itself into limp mode when throttle depressed over half way. See the attached picture and check for greasy patches/little splits.
Fingers crossed it’s that simple as they’re quite easy to replace yourself. The worst part is the ridiculous amount of bumper fixings to get the bugger off.

So it’s finally been into an independent Vw specialist and the only thing they could find was that the timing belt was slightly out of tolerance at 5 when it should be less, or something like that but they weren’t sure that was the cause. Would that cause the coil light to go as described. How urgent is it to get the belt sorted / replaced?

Did they give you the code scan results?

An engine light will flag codes.

Under/over boost?
Egr flow codes?
Etc etc.

Has it been remapped? Mine did this in exactly the same scinario. Took it to another mapper and they said it was asking for too much boost
