Had flashing coil light on return journey from Cornwall. Next day took it for a drive as the light didn’t come on at start up. Less than quarter of a mile light came on with EML as well and Carista showed 005171 and 07144 codes. Following advice on here I inspected the intercooler and sure enough it was split. New one fitted codes reset but 07144 code returns but not always. Put soapy water around intercooler connections and no visible leaks. Haven’t put the bumper back on so can’t actually drive it to see if the coil light comes on but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your split intercooler will be the cause of the coil light 005171.
The databus fault would ideally need a full scan of the vehicle to diagnose further, as this may be an issue relating to another control unit, that is being logged in the engine ECU because of that, rather than an engine Fault.

Thanks. Gives me some hope. I’ll see what happens when I put the front back on and take a drive. Swapping headlights while I ha be it in bits!

Update after a short drive, Carista reports:
Basic OBD2. P0101 and P0299
CAN Networking gateway. 03158
Engine: 04795, 05171 and 07144
Instrument Cluster. U112100
Battery Regulator. 02752

I’ve had the U112100 before and I think it relates to aftermarket head unit.
I also think the 03158 has been there before for the same reason.
I believe P0101 and 04795 are the same.

Not what I was hoping having changed the intercooler that was definitely split!!

Further update: passenger side boost pipe separated from intercooler 🥺
So bumper off again (certainly easier the second time!).
I can’t get the clip to hold it in place presumably because it’s not going into the intercooler socket far enough. As anyone who has done this will know access is extremely tight. Any hints or tips please. Can the pipe be disconnected at the jubilee clip and reattached after fitting to the intercooler off the van?

Was going to say, I bet it was one of the intercooler hoses.. especially when you posted about a whooshing noise.
Best advise would be;
Lubricate the seal with engine oil (just a good coating, don't need to go mad)
Long flat screw driver to push the hose into the intercooler using lip of the metal end of the pipe - Hopefully more obvious when you look at it.

They can be really tight, so a good tap with a long, flap screwdriver can help send it home!

Thanks again.. I will also swap back to the original clips as they have straighter sides than the replacements so should grip better

Something else to look out for is that the ends were the pipes go are actually round, as they get damaged in transit and become ovals..

Further update: lubricated the o rings and reseated the pipes. A satisfying click as the clips sprung into place. Reset all codes and fired her up. Just 07144 error and all seemed to be staying together but it wouldn’t let me rev it higher than about 2500 so I guess not a fair test as the turbo wouldn’t have cut in!!

Fixed. Runs fine with no warning lights. Still has the 07144 code along with the 03158 and U112100. I’ll take the “no warning lights and no limp mode” for now.
Thanks again Phil_j89 for the tips. Incidentally my van is the same red.
