Engine warning light and slight loss of power

I have a vw t6 caravelle 2017 LWB 102hp. On Xmas eve I had a slight loss of power whilst turning on to the m6. Engine light started flashing and have done a Carista odb diagnostic this afternoon. Has thrown 2 codes up: P2779 Intake air system leak ( came up first) and this morning (whilst stationary) a P0401 exhaust gas recirculation “A” flow insufficient detected.

I could hear a vacuum type sound whilst driving and this vacuum noise increases under revs.

On visual inspection all hoses and pipes look ok.

The main vacuum sound seems to come from the manifold, specifically, when I hold my hand to the lower part of the manifold I can feel air movement. I have circled in the picture below where this is most obvious.

The van has done 112k miles.

Could this be a failure of the manifold given no other obvious leaks?

It definitely felt like something gave way when it first went on Xmas eve.

Any thoughts much appreciated. Thanks

Best would be to carry out a smoke test from the air filter onwards, so you will see if there are any leaks.

The intake manifold is plastic.

The are cases that the manifold can be burned through.

Under Rev blips does it still sound like vaccine... Or boost pressure?

Identified that the egr connecting pipe had sheared off. New pipe ordered. The m8 bolts were very difficult to turn, ended up taking 1hr messing around until got brave enough to use a hammer to get the screw head to grip. It’s quite tricky getting to one of the screws at the back.

Did you use a smoke tester to identify the leak? would be nice to see the offending pipe. Glad you got it sorted out.
