Engine revving at idle - what’s going on here?

My engine has started a rhythmic revving when stationary and at idle. What is this and why?

When stopped and foot on the break sometimes the engine revs rhythmicly from 1000rpm to about 900rpm, with the speedo needle flicking up and down. It’s a DSG gearbox on a T6.1. Doesn’t happen all the time just randomly and you can hear the engine revving then back to idle over and over. Any idea what this is pls?

I would say possibly a regen but your speedo needle shouldn't be flicking up and down with it.
Have you got a Carista or VCDS?

The first thing is to check for any error codes with your scanner.
A DPF regen wou;d typically just raise the revs to 1000rpm, but not flicker.

A regen on my DNAA engine is approx every 220 miles and last for about 10 to 20 minutes.
Invest in a Carista. We are at the point where a diagnostic is more important than a socket set.
