Engine light is on and various other issue

Hi

just bought this t6 camper recently it is 2l tdi 102hp engine.
Van had eml during mot, garage just reset it before sale, when i got back home from dealer eml light was on again, i went to my local indy he found following codes. Picture 1
He did reset it, but said that it looks like egr could be knackered!?
In few days EML came back, and also adblue came on the screen, which sorted itself after some driving.
picture 2 shows the codes on second check up.
My indie told me to go to VW as he dont want to start messing around with it while i have warranty, so i have booked myself with local VW commercial center for a check up on 2nd june.
This morning while driving to work apart eml flashing glow plug sign came on, no power loss though. Which did reset after engine restart.
Im booked with vw commercial for a full checkup on 2nd june, but
On friday i have 200mile round tip planned, i have full RAC cover but i just wondering should i take the risk driving it or not?
Any ideas what could be wrong with it? Blocked egr? Dpf? Any advise much appreciated .

defo looks EGR / emissions related. ( Possible EGR Replacement reqd )

take it back to VW, and show them the scans.

as clearing them will have erased them from memory.

They may just clear the codes and send you back out, so insist on a proper diagnostic inline with the warrenty terms . . . ( you dont say what year the van is? )

Also, some of the implausible entries can be software related, so if it has never had any upgrades, the dealer can do that as well.

Year is 2017 january. Van is out of vw waranty but i covered with garage i have bought it from. Last time indie didnt deleted codes, so im still driving with EML, no power loss so far, is it a big gamble to go for 200miles round trip this weekend?

If its just a yellow EML with no additional RED lamps, or other.

Then id say you should be ok.... its most likely emissions related and not a drivability concern.

Hi

Just had a full checkup at the VW commercial yesterday.

They came with following issues
1. EGR fault - flush required plus bits and 2h labour - £510
2. Cyl 3 glow plug pressure sensor faulty need replacement £335

Also failed front shockers which explained while car was juddering over potholes, replace at VW is £800
And faulty battery £280
Possible slight noise from cam belt, might be worth changing it - £550

All in all at VW almost £2.5K which is a pain.

My local garage quoted £650 for new EGR and glow plug.
I need some advice from you guys, shall i do a flush at VW or replace EGR at my local garage?

Thank you
P

For the small difference is cost I’d look to replace the EGR and then clean the one that was removed and keep for a spare.
It won’t be the last time it will need cleaning.

So what will your warranty cover? Just the glow sensor?

EGR flush is a waste of money if you're keeping the van for any length of time. Swap it out with your indy.
Cam belt. Get it done at VW. That price isn't too bad if it already includes VAT.
Get some shocks from someone on here. They're swapped out every day and usually can be had cheap then get your indy to fit.
Get your own battery and fit yourself.

Hopefully that could save you over 1k.

Glow plug 3 is special. It has presure sensor in it, so more expensive than the orhers.

The cam belt was due for replacement anyway on a van older than 4 years, unless it's been done recently, so that's not really a fault, more a scheduled event. If I were you I'd get the aux belt done at the same time, it's not a great deal extra and if the aux belt fails it can take out the cambelt, you really don't want that.

Thank you for advise.

As when i was buying the vehicle i have discussed EGR and engine in general and the garge said that car been checked and there was no faults, so they commited to replace any of this on their behalf, so that is my waranty.
Regarding battery i do it myself. Already bought a Varta.
Shockers, alignment and cambelt will do at my own expense.

Might leave cambelt job for a month or so, as no massive concern at the moment. As you said they just most likely indicated it as it was due age wise and milage getting there too.
Will do cambelt, aux and water pump at the end of the summer.

Never stop learning i guess, special glow plug it is, its funny as Autodoc still advising to buy 4 units lol, that would be a disaster £320 for a set. :)

My cambelt was not noisy when I changed it at 5 years, I think if it's noisy, even slightly as yours is, I'd make it a priority, even more so than the shocks. The noise suggests that all is not well, I wouldn't want to risk a ruined engine by delaying the cambelt change.
Of course, it's up to you, it would worry me too much though! :slow rofl:

@Paperboy was this at Hadwins? Personally I wouldn’t pay the quoted price for the EGR flush, you would be better off replacing it at your indie. It might be worth checking if the EGR fault has been a recurring problem with the van and see if there is any goodwill forthcoming.

Yes, thats all at Hadwins. No good will from VW so all booked now for replacement at local indie. Next Wednesday major repairs. Seller agreed to pay for plug and egr replacement which is a relief, i think i could push them for shockers as well but hey hoe.

Some update on work that have been done.
I have replaced vehicle battery
Also cambelt with water-pump and aux belt.
And today van came back from repairs.
It has new genuine EGR valve sourced from VW
And a cylinder 3 glow plug with pressure sensor
Still awaiting for front shocks to arrive, will get them fitted next week.

i have kept my old egr, looks caked up inside.
Wonder where to get it refurbished?
