Electric cables too good to be true?

Hi all,

Just wanted to sanity check something before I place an order.

I’ve been looking at H07RN-F rubber cable from CSE Distributors which seems to be significantly cheaper than anywhere else I’ve found (12 Volt Planet, Marine Electricals etc.).

Just wanted to check that the cable is the correct cable to use in a 12v electric camper build?

They only sell single core in black, so my thinking is to order all the negative single core cables and also twin core cables for appliances, control panel Etc from CSE. Then purchase red single core cable elsewhere.

Has anyone used CSE Distributors for this cable before? Is it genuinely the same quality as the more expensive stuff from the usual campervan / marine suppliers or am I missing something?

Cheers 👍

As best I can tell on the 6mm cable, the actual copper is the same. It’s hugely more chunky in terms of insulation though than the standard stuff, outside diameter of 9.8mm vs 4.3mm on standard automotive cable.

I've got and used H07RN-F cable, it's super flexible and rubbery.
It's mainly used in DJ and pa setups for the speaker power cable from the main amplifiers.

Has it so super flexible.... It's normally multi-strand copper cable.

I managed to get 100m drum fairly cheap the other year.... I used it for various applications including making up some solar MC4 link cables.... And using it for 12 volt power fades from an ATC sub fuse box.

I have the 2.5 mil version which is my preferred 12-volt feed wire

It's great super flexible cable but not the most durable in regards to the shaving strength, so make sure it's firmly a fixed wherever it's going so that you don't get no rub through.

This is the closest link I found to the stuff I've..

I have the 2.5 mm squared red and black with a jacket as a two core cable

I bought it from bishop sound.co.uk when I was selling off pallet loads of it cheap.

I think I paid about 80 quid before 100 m roll well two 50 meter rolls or maybe two 40 meter rolls

.

Thanks all, really helpful replies.

Sounds like it is spec’d correctly just sold into a different market (DJ/speakers etc) rather than the usual camper/marine suppliers putting their margin on it.

Good point as well on simply marking the black single core with red tape for positive runs and on the pointing out the insulation thickness too. I can see the OD is a lot chunkier than standard automotive cable. Sounds like the flexibility is a big plus though. Only thing I’m slightly concerned about at this point is larger conduit which will now be required. I might struggle getting everything I need through the B-pillar conduits from the seat base. Also conscious of how much space the thicker cable will take up within the seat base itself, but my build is relatively low amp age so I should be okay as will be using up to 25mm2 cables.

Still at these prices it definitely seems worth a go.

H07RN-F is an amazing cable. Heavy duty. Oil resistant. Flexible. I use it all the time to connect up ovens and cookers in its 3 core variant. Makes a good EHU cable as you get away with using 1.5 instead of the usual 2.5.
