Thanks yep got an account there, spot on.TPS is prob best for genuine parts if they will let you buy (trade only)
If VW can source a seal to build the assembly the seal can be supplied individually, it’s a case of if VW want to.Mine is in at VW whilst they investigate a coolant leak. I know where it’s coming from.
Anyway they rang to say the seal between the cooler and the rear casting (valve) has failed so it needs a new egr assembly.
Is it right that it can’t be separated and the seal replaced?
Seems ludicrous that it’s nearly a grand for a failed seal.
Exactly. It’s just a case of making money by supplying the complete unit. I don’t have the ability or patience to remove the unit myself and attempt to disassemble it so it’s time to find someone to replace it for less than £860+vatIf VW can source a seal to build the assembly the seal can be supplied individually, it’s a case of if VW want to.
You could try going down the ’Green’ route and suggest that it is not exactly a sustainable procedure, which it isn’t.
The seal will be on a Material List for the EGR unit and it will give the size and specification.
I’ve had suppliers who refuse to supply sub-components so they can sell more high value parts. Once we started sourcing sub-components elsewhere and carrying out our own repairs they threatened to stop all supplies.
