Egr advice needed

Hi guys

Looking for some advice, we purchased our T6 in march prior to us getting it the egr valve, cooler and pipe where replace in November last year.
The engine management light came on a couple of weeks ago and the codes relate to erg recirculation flow being insufficient the garage that originally did the work have looked at it and are saying that they think it’s clogged and the reason that it’s clogged so fast (12 months) is due to the fact that when we purchased the van it had been mapped (unknown to us at the time) the map was taken of by them about 4 months ago as we had the whole fuel system replaced so it’s been put back to standard and has been since that work.
I’m hoping for some advice, with egr valve only being a year old do you think that cleaning it would be a potential fix (they’ve said they can do this by dipping it in some new vibration bath type equipment that they’ve got) the other option is obviously replacing it but that would be over double the cost of the cleaning so I’m unsure what to do, keen to try and spend as little as possible as currently still recovering for the £8500 fuel system cost.
Thanks in advance

I had an egr flush on a previous T6 shortly after purchasing it. I never had any further issues with it and sold the van almost five years after. That said the van was rarely used for short journeys, I used Shell V Power diesel and used a diesel cleaner every six months (liqui Moly)

I replaced my erg unit after 60k and having had at least 2 flushes as the eml kept throwing up the same faults. Others reported their units being coked up solid so I asked for my old unit back. Interestingly although it was clogged up it the deposits weren’t solid and I have managed to clean it out with various solvents I had in the garage quite easily. My point is if the unit is reasonably new the deposits may be soft enough to clean out if soaked overnight in a solvent so worth a go.

I was thinking the same.
Also, I've successfully cleaned out an old EGR cooler with oven pride to the point where it's like new.

Just make sure when it’s rebuilt with a new gasket it is passes a hydrostatic pressure test before it’s fitted back in the van.

The garage that have done the work on the van for me and the previous owner have one of those ultra sonic vibration baths which look like they do really good job of cleaning, I’ve just watched a video of it being done on you tube

Copy and paste this link in to your browser, it pretty much comes up as good as new and surely that would be way better than a flush ?

I think taking it off and cleaning it will be better than just a flush

Would the fact it’s not displaying any other symptoms other than the engine management light, no rough idol, no black smoke etc, mean that potential is not yet completely clogged to the point a vibration bath or clean wouldn’t do the job ?

Hi, I’m no expert but I’ve just had a very similar chain of events with my 66 plate T6
Replaced the egr valve and the engine management light came on straight after.
Took it back in and had the inlet manifold done, which they were going to clean thoroughly but it was so clogged that they ended up replacing. They seem to be getting severely clogged on the Euro 6 engines, the flap valves get stuck.
Now drives a lot better but the EM light came back in after all that still.
Now looking to get a carbon clean done and hoping that will fix it once and for all before it bankrupts me.
Seems ridiculous to me on such a relatively recent vehicle. The vast majority of my miles are on open roads, not stop start driving. Will look to use better quality fuel / Redex in the future in the hope that this works moving forward.
Any advice welcomed…

Update on this, van has been in the garage and the egr valve and cooler have been stripped they have found a decent amount of (pure water) as they called it in the cooler to the point it can be sucked out with a syringe… they are now going to replace the valve and cooler but are completely baffled to where the water has come from…. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this or have any ideas ?
