DSG FLYWHEEL

Hi , just had a service and health check on my 150 auto , they have said it needs a flywheel doing , currently on 62,000 miles. It is rattly , and the main stealers want £1600 for the job, what are the consequences of leaving it for a while?
Will it be catastrophic if it does go?

Thanks in advance,
John

That's a piece of string. It may still last the life of the clutch pack, or it might disintegrate and leave you with no drive this afternoon. Only Mystic Meg knows.

HI, thanks, my mate has a couple of vans one on 200,00 the others on 350,000 his rattle , mind they are both manual. HE doesn't seem bothered by it , i like to have things right as its a camper and intend to do some miles in it these next few years, just seems like there made of chinesium reading some of the posts about flywheels lol

Thats crazy money for a flywheel, i wouldnt bother they will rattle along for years

If you are getting it done i would do some research and find out exactly what they are intending to do then shop around and get a price from a good indy for comparison, i bought a new flywheel for my T6 DSG and IIRC it was around £250-300 so thats potentially a huge labour charge to fit it ?

Hi Pauly, on the health check they had it down for 6 hours labour, is that about right for the job? Think it must be a biggish job.

Probably, the gearbox has to come off so never going to be a quick job !
Dealerships charge big bucks per hour, IMO if its a general mechanical job like this i see no point in paying inflated dealer prices unless you need warranty or particular diagnostic work

If it's driving OK I'd make sure my breakdown recovery is up to date and leave it be.
