Dometic CRX50 fridge setting

Hi all,

I have just been away for the weekend and our fridge sounded like it was continuously running. I understand it will work harder in this heat but even trying to keep the door closed and checking the door seal it never made a difference. It has run the battery down very quick.

What settings does everyone have there fridge set to?

I have ordered a thermometer so I can check the temperature and see if I can drop it down a setting and see if that helps.

Last weekend we used ours for the first time. Left it on the coldest setting and the 100ah lithium was done after 2.5 days.

I'll try it on another setting next time to see if it makes much difference.

I have a Sanjo 3J compressor fridge which is pretty much a copy of the Dometic CRX50. This time of year it's on maximum (5) setting to keep the freezer frozen and the fridge around 3 degrees. According to my Cerbo it is powering up every hour during daylight and less frequently at night to maintain the temperature.
At this time of year it does use battery capacity quite well, but a decent sized solar panel puts the power back nicely and a fair sized leisure battery certainly helps.
I did put an extra ventilation grille in a year ago to help with airflow.
The temperature in the van hits the mid 40 degrees whilst sitting on the drive when the sun comes out, perhaps try some shiny reflective stuff to keep the suns powers to a minimum?

I'd guess it needs more ventilation at the rear. The heat it removes from the fridge needs to go somewhere. I normally put mine on the third light while travelling and on second light while on site. Make sure it is full, even if you just fill it with cold beer. If it's just air in there then every time you open the door the cold air will be replaced with warm air and the fridge will have to cool it down all over again.

I took the draw out on Saturday to see if that helped. There is a drop out vent below and two at the side. You could be onto something though, the fridge was pretty empty as it was only two nights. My little girl thinks she is at home and leaves the door open when looking what to eat next…..

As the head goldfish trainer in our house I've managed to train her indoors to decide what she wants then open the door, get it and then shut the door. It's taken several years though.
I had a problem with the fridge running all the time in 35 degrees external temp in France a couple of years ago. The rear of the kitchen unit was hot to the touch (I have a twin slider) so I cut a hole and installed a large vent. It made a huge difference.

'Head goldfish trainer'! Love that! After a 6 inch by 4 vent addition, we've had no worries in the last 12 months.
