Dlr not working

Hi all
New to the group . I have a vw t6 18 plate highline with led day running lights . They don't work in the day on auto setting but do work if put them on to side lights .. on a night when the light switch is in auto the lights work perfectly. So it's just the dlrs are not working in the day as they should on auto ? Any ideas or solutions?

It does sound like the drl’s aren’t working and what you are seeing is the side lights or dipped beam headlights.
You say they are LED. Are they the factory LED headlights or just LED bulbs in H4s or H7s?

No lights at all on in day as in pic .. I will turn lights on to side lights and show . These are normally drls - the bottom strip

As they use the same LEDs when on side lights as DRL, you know the leds are OK...have they ever worked in your ownership of the vehicle?

Silly question, but have you tried with your handbrake off? there is a VCDS setting that turns off the DRLs when the handbrake is on.

Hi yes they did work until recently. They also don't work with handbrake off as I noticed in the reflection in mirrored glass buildings when driving. Many thanks

They are aftermarket headlights, probably the ones sold by Transporter HQ. I would have said that some headlight wiring or a resistor has failed, but wouldn't expect that to happen to both at the same time.

The capacitors fail on these, had two sets from THQ under warranty. After the third set failed THQ didn't bother responding to honor the warranty on the third set. Tried stripping the unit down and found the wiring and components were constructed from the cheapest Chineseisum available. Repaired them and sold them and got some money back

These are my headlights
Been told they are factory units and an expensive factory upgrade
The side lights don't work either and have a bulb fault on indicstors on dash and flash fast but all indicators work normally externally

Fault codes would help to pinpoint possible causes.

No fault codes show up at all and it's been scanned by 2 garages with vcds

Thats impossible, if you have a fault light on the dash then the van knows something is not working

If you have no DRLs or sidelights (they are the same thing with a different brightness) then it can only be a limited number of things
Is it both sides not working or just one ?

No DLRs or sidelights on either side
Yep both garages i went to said no fault codes coming up and they couldn't find out why the indicators were showing up with a fault light but working perfectly
Both garages I use are reputable and very good to deal with

It’s a shame your so far away would love to plug my laptop in and see what’s going on

At this stage I would suggest you start your own thread and list full details of what’s going on, van model and age etc, when they worked and when they didn’t etc etc and hopefully we can give some advice

Ye I'm closer to Iceland than to you probably haha
I have put up a thread in regards to the indicators a while ago, a lot of helpful advice/possibilities came through like have LED bulbs been fitted etc but still stuck on the issue
VW want £160 per hour to investigate is that about right for an hour??

I would defo not take it VW, you want a VW specialist independent or even a retrofit company if you have one anywhere in your area as they will have the correct diagnosis kit to give you some answers
