Disclok, gold or diamond?

Hi all
Getting our first T6.1 camper next weekend having had nearly 20 years T25 ownership. Never had the need for a Disclok on the 25 due to bus size steering wheel, but we can have one on the T6.1. I believe we need the small size? Anyway, Disclok comes in gold or newly launched this year, diamond. Apparently the diamond one has increased cut resistance over the gold and is around £120 more.
As a Disclok is primarily a visual deterrent and unlikely to be attacked (possibly?) , I’m wondering if the diamond is worth getting over the gold version?
Looking forward to reading your opinions.
Many thanks
Pete

If you can comfortably afford the diamond then go for it. You don’t want be thinking ‘what if’ should the worst happen.

Can’t afford the extra £120….. I’m sure the Gold will be just fine

Hi Pete,

Which one did you get in the end? I’m currently procrastinating about the gold or diamond options.

James.

Security is best done in layers.
The gold Disklok is a good lock and a fantastic visual deterrent. The Diamond version adds a bit more anti grinder material but probably won’t add any more visual deterrent- if a thief has decided to have a go when you have a gold version fitted then they are committed to the cause and I doubt a diamond person (if they even twig it’s different) would put them off at that stage.

I’d save the £125 difference and buy a £60 pedal lock from ABE (maybe add a couple of their window stickers to the order too) to supplement the Disklok.

Having both the steering wheel and pedals immobilised in a visually obvious way seems more of a deterrent than just the steering wheel.

Hi.

Thanks for the reply, sage advice. I shall investigate the pedal lock and disklok option.

Thanks again.

Hi James
We went for the Diamond as I thought I’d regret it if the worst thing happened if I didn’t.
The pain of the spend wears off eventually 🤣. Nice product and it’s muscle memory to use every time even if only popping into a shop.
Perhaps there are some Black Friday discounts around?
Good luck with whatever you choose.

I like the layered approach, as previously suggested, but I’m still drawn to the extra grinder resistance of the diamond.
I’m reminded of seeing a couple of oiks nicking an expensive bike, in Cambridge. They rode up, pulled a small cordless angle grinder out of a carrier bag, cut the the lock and gone; pretty much all before anyone, myself included could react!

That was a few years ago, now cheap cordless cutters and very effective discs are more widely available!

Best I can get at the moment is a 5% discount, from disklok themselves…

I do have an anti-angle grinder (Litelok) D-lock on the motorbike but I also use the layered approach there too and add a diamond rated disc lock on the other wheel plus chain it to something if it’s left a while, even in the garage.
Whatever you can do to put them off and then slow them down.

For completeness of this post, I did end up getting the diamond disklok in the end. I decided to swallow the cost and sleep a bit easier at night! 🤞

Anyway, the cost of it has been over written now, in my mind; as I just got four new winter tyres for my winter wheels 🤔😊

Thanks for replies and advice 👍
