Direct Line And Admiral....is A T6 Kombi A Car Or A Van?

I have a new T6 Kombi (unmodified), arriving this Friday and am quickly looking at insurance options. It's a privately owned vehicle and will be used for commuting to the office and leisure mileage.

So....I currently have motor insurance with two companies, Direct Line and Admiral. Will the Kombi be regarded as a car or a van by these companies - they have car and van websites? My current policies are for cars so if they're vans it may not be so simple to swap a vehicles over. The T6 will be used purely as a personal vehicle and have no commercial use so for me it's a car.

Cheers.

Depends on if your V5 says class M1 or N1 N is commercial.

Best to ask them directly, we are with Aviva and changed a Volvo XC60 for our Kombi. I had issues with them getting the model right but otherwise it was a simple swap (and we got a partial refund).

Not sure that's correct in terms of insurance....I have a Defender registered as a commercial vehicle but is still insured via Direct Line as a car not a van.

I've been trying to complete the Direct Line online quote section on both the car and van site - the car site didn't recognise the model I selected and the van site threw a fit at that moment and suggested I try later :)

You're right...I'll call them later.

I’m with Directline for all our insurance and my Kombi is insured as a van. I had the same problem as they could not recognise the model. I had to speak to the dealer to get the details DLG wanted. I agree, it is best to call them rather than trying to do it online.

Are you intending to modify it in any way ? If not any insurance company should be fine but a lot don't like mods.

Thanks for your advice.

Not really. Most of the ones I went to get insurance on would not cover it. so I stayed with Adrian Flux

Yep i am having the same problem, using Admiral and a quote off Grove & Dean, they could not find the model, even though its been out for about a year (T32s 204 DSG Highline), speak to VW and they should give you 5 free days insurance so it has time for the reg to filter into the system.(based on an 18 plate)

Some good news....

First tried Admiral. The result was a crazy £899 via their Van site.

Just came off the phone with Direct Line. They quoted just under £300 via their car insurance site - more than happy.
