Dipstick noise

Hi all

I’m looking at buying a 2018 T6 150 highline lwb.

All checks out very well and has 56k miles but just one thing concerned me. When I took the dipstick out whilst running there seemed to be a greater than normal noise coming from the tube. Didn’t overly worry me but when I did same on a 2023 identical t6 the nose was much less.

Van drives superbly and no evidence of anything else /can codes and van serviced regularly so just wondering if this could be a hint at anything more serious?

I appreciate it’s very hard to gauge a ‘noise’ on a forum but wondered if there’s anything I should be concerned about and if maybe the occasional system can cause this?

All thought appreciated and thanks!

if you take the dipstick out, you’re going to cause rough running. Sounds like nothing and with the service history/checks I’d wager you’re alright.

My only other “check” would be the MOT history. Obviously the cleaner the better but with that relatively low mileage, check for gaps. I’d want a steady increase every year.

There is no reason to remove the dipstick while the engine is running?

I get that and the engine didn’t run rougher as I did it but as the seller had already started it I was just looking for oil colour (it had apparently just been serviced) so it just surprised me how much ‘noise’ came up the dipstick tube.

It happened by chance that my mate had rented an identical van (but 2023 reg) and i did same and it was just surprisingly quieter.

As I say it drove and picked up and idled fine.

There was an obd fault for one glow plug but that doesn’t really worry me although possibly strange that the servicing garage hadn’t picked this up.

I would say the engines are quite different. Most likely 2023 van has D-series engine as opposed to 2018 CXHA/CXFA engine. The newer engines are significantly quieter - even with dipstick in place.

Surely they had picked it up and most likely had just cleared the dash emission light (amber engine symbol). The glow plug failure definitely will turn on dash emission light after a few startups - not immediately as ECU needs to few ignition cycles to confirm the fault.

PS. With proper diagnostic tools you could check when the faults were cleared. A nice bit of information, I would think.
