I’m planning to fit a diesel heater in my garage. It’s 12v 2kw-5kw. Can any of you knowledgable people advise me what I need to run it from 240v? I presume it’s some kind of step down transformer. Thanks in advance.

You'd need a 12v psu capable of supplying the amps required by the heater. I think mine pulls around 12amps on startup then settles down to around 1-2amps.

Mine pulls in excess of 20A on startup, it all depends upon what heater you are talking about. Mine is an old style 7Kw Webasto. Do you mean 5Kw and what heater make and model?
The easiest is to use a spare battery that sits on permanent charge, that way you always have a spare charged battery for emergencies.

The spare battery is a good shout.

My old man uses and 12v PSU for his 5kw Chinese one in his garage. Works a treat.
