Ctek mxs 5 and ds250se

I have started using a ctek mxs 5 maintainer for trhe van battery. I have noticed that the ctek ds250se I have to charge the leisure battery appears to be facilitating intermittent current into the leisure battery. What has me a bit concerned is that it is putting 17-18 amp into the leisure battery, for around 10 seconds, this continues periodically about 2-3 times a minute. Is this going to have a detrimental effect on the van battery? Toying with the idea of putting a switch on the battery+ to ds250se to stop this. Advise appreciated.

Totally normal and expected behavior.

I call it. The auto vsr feature.

The dc-dc is seeing the increased voltage from the charger, and same as then engine running.....the dc-dc Kicks in and starts charging the LB.

This will then drop the starter voltage a bit..... As the mx5 is only low current... So the dc-dc will cut out .. and so the cycle continues.

Ultimately, with enough time both batteries will end up fully charged.

If you're concerned that it might take a long while for the 5 amps of the MXS5 to "get ahead" of the 18 amp bursts on the DS250 then rather than disrupting the wiring to the DC-DC treat yourself to the Victron 15A maintenance charger.

Otherwise everything is working as it should, if you know you're laying the van up for a bit try and do it after a decent drive so you know both batteries are well charged and the two chargers will work in tandom to counter the standby drain on both batteries.
