Crank seal. Can I inspect?

Front Crank Seal.
Is this something you can inspect yourself before going into a garage?

In short, no.

If you've removed enough hardware to be able to actually eyeball a crank seal you may as well spend the tenner or so on a new seal and fit it.

61k - Engine oil leak ( front main crankshaft seal ) - FOC under warranty

front crankshaft oil seal replaced - warranty (oil leak)

this was highlighted when looking at the power steering rack low oil above.

this was visible from behind the drivers side wheel . .





@Loz was bang on and diagnosing the front crankshaft seal as leaking . . .








this was confirmed by the dealer while it was in for the service above. . .

You can inspect for potential leaks, but you can't inspect the actual seal without spanners.
