Confused, yes it's a thing... 20" wheel vs tyres vs spacers

I thought I had all this sorted, I was even warned this would be a thing and I was certain it wasn't, well... Yes, it's a thing! Humpf!

I'm probably over thinking it all now and now a staggered setup has really messed up what I thought I knew... So, 20" 8.5j wheels, use a 265/40 tyre with a 40-50mm drop was my target.. 35,40 or 45 offset? Add spacer to the rear wheels?..

Or...

Is a staggered setup better and put 10j on the rears, I'm not a fan of the trye profile difference when using the same tyres but also don't like the idea of mixing tyre sizes.

Ohhhh! Yep, this has really confused me now.. Maybe just run 9j all round but I don't want the fronts to poke out so is there a 'Best' offset?... 10mm spacers on the rears?

Van is (will be) a T30 6.1 with a full camper conversion.

I really didn't want to clutter the forum with yet another post but after reading and searching for a while I sill haven't sorted it in my head, PLEASE go easy on me! does anyone know a good place to visit local to me (North Devon)

Don't even ask me about wheel choices yet

Unfortunately you will get mixed answers to this question mate. Personally I'm a staggered fan, but I've run all sorts.

If you want simplicity and all matching tyres, just go a generic 8.5" ET45 all round and if you want the rears to be further out, just use spacers. Everything matches and no hassle.

What a simple and easy answer to a ridiculously complex issue... That's basicly what I was thinking and was hoping a more knowledgeable person would come back with! Cheers buddy!

My knowledge is only from years of throwing money at the same problem.
The wheel saga is well documented on here, but my general rule of thumb is simplicity 8.5-ET45-spacers or you go into the dark complex world of staggered/offsets/stretched/tucked/level/ slammed/swamper/winter/summer wheels. Then your head will be properly spinning.

@Tourershine has put you back on track, so I'm going to go the other way and maybe confuse things further. To me, nothing looks better on these vans than a nice set of staggered alloys, well, maybe some banded steel setups, but not all. The way the spokes on a 10" rear can dive in towards the hub for a deep concave look is just awesome (if that's your thing) and makes a real difference to the look of the van, it elevates it above a standard 8.5" all round setup and with careful tyre choice a staggered set up can work great. You're helped by owning a T30 so it opens up more options for legal tyre sizes.

Now the shameless marketing plug:
Our unit isn't a million miles from you, so if you want to talk wheels, styling, suspension, PM me and I'll send you my number. Those 3 things are our specialist subject. We can have a chat over messaging on here, over the phone or even come down to the unit and have a look at my awesome (albeit old T6) demo van running staggered 20s. We don't keep wheels/tyres in stock, but can source them for you at very competitive prices. Feel free to get in touch and I can help talk you through the options. We've done the head spinning research and trial and error so you don't have to! If you decide to go with the previous advice and go with the 8.5 all round that's great, we can still help you choose the right wheels, tyres, spacers and suspension when you get to it.

Shameless plug indeed but could be very helpful :) I will continue my research for a bit as luckily i'm not in a rush, will most likely be jan/feb time!
