Class 4 mot garage in liverpool

Can anyone recommend a garage to do a class 4 mot in Liverpool. Its a T32 kombi. Bit of a grey area with the classification as it can be classed as a dual purpose vehicle but is over the 3000kg gross weight. Been to a few garages but they won't touch it

Liverpool Mot in Speke - they are over the road from VW Van Centre - I think they do all the MOT's for VW - just looke don their website and it says Class 4 on the home page

Nah its only a few quid. Just went round a few local garages today and the point blank refused to acknowledge it can be done as a class 4. Even though I was showing them the .gov guideline on a dual purpose vehicle

There’s a pretty comprehensive definition of a dual purpose vehicle in the Type Approval Regs. Does your van meet the requirements?
Is it worth the buggeration factor trying to get it through as Class4, or would it be easier just to roll over & take the Class7?

I had the same situation with my T30 4Motion, the extra weight of 4Motion puts the maximum allowable mass of my van up to 3080KG so just over the 3 tonne weight limit for Class 4 MOT. Although it had previously been tested as Class 4 apparently when the garage enter the registration into the computer it refuses to allow a Class 4 MOT now.
I just took it to a local Class 7 MOT station.
It's no real issue and I see no point fighting a fight you can't win.

Ashcroft auto centre in Penketh (Warrington) does mine, bit out the way but it is another option if you are struggling to get in anywhere.

Ideally I wanted someone I've used in the past but will just have to go anywhere for a 7 I think

That's what I'm getting from the .gov site. Most garages are just over cautious

Whilst that flow chart is relevant, the words above it on the website are important too;


My T6 has an unladen weight of more than 2,040Kg, (because it's a 4Motion), so can't be a dual purpose vehicle for test purposes.

But if it was a 4motion kombi it would be class 4? Why do they have to be so ambiguous

When bureaucrats change regulation or adopt them these days they do little research into all the potential ramifications.
