Hello , getting fed up of using iphone maps to navigate , wondering if this is a relatively easy swop , does any purchased unit need to be unlocked etc?
not bothered about most features , just keen to get NAV on an OEM stereo , many thanks

I swapped my colour for the media and it was easy, just followed a YouTube vid.
The unit I bought had component protection removed so I could just plug it in, despite this it does still need coding to the van otherwise it shows component protection warning in the diagnostic. The seller set the unit for a t6 so all the images were correct like parking sensors (it shows a van). The one issue was I lost my front to rear fader but a very kind person from the forum did that for me.
I also changed the usb socket so I could use CarPlay and Google maps.
You may need to think about an antenna for the gps.
Hope that’s useful

Brilliant so i just need to get one which has had component protection removed ? did you do the "coding" yourself is that a pin number or using VWDS or something similar , i had read about the usb socket needing changing , could i ask where you got the updated one from ? also could you recomend the seller you used that sounds perfect scenario , many thanks John

Brilliant, where did you get your component protected disabled head unit from , seeing lots on eBay etc

Holy cow that looks complicated!! Well done ! Think I am looking at an unlocked one! Any help with with the coding to the van that eetmw mentioned in his post ?

If you search for mib2 on eBay quite a few come up. I think I just searched for the usb connector based on info from this forum, you don’t need the whole wiring set just the connector and you trim a bit of plastic off and connect it to the connector on the wire.
All coding was done for me by other people.
Good luck

thank you Toby , i am getting loads of info from you guys just need to locate a head unit now , preferably unlocked , one little question , the current usb socket which does nothing except provide a charging port , does that run to the current head unit ? just thinking about routing etc. and the guys that did your coding was that a vwds thing ?
cheers in advance, john

Yes the current usb socket on mine ran to the head unit and also provided a media connection but not car play and the coding required needed vcds, I only have a carista
I think my usb socket was green and swapped to purple or the other way round, there are lots of threads about CarPlay with details which is where I found it and the useful tip on only replacing the connector rather than the whole wire loom which would have been a pain.
