I,m after a side door made from the same stuff as a tent, with a window that can be unzipped , similar to the fly screens but tent material. dose this exist?

Welcome to the forum.

I'm afraid I've never seen anything like that, you will probably have to get it custom made.

I presume you're wanting a canvas cover to sit in the opening of the slider(?), whereas I suspect @Kind of Blue thought you were suggesting the slider be *replaced* by a canvas cover... hence him questioning the legality.

There are wide fly screens out there that either tuck under the door threshold seal (not ideal) or that are secured with magnets.

Never seen a tent fabric style option for this though. I think as the secure application for the fly screen options are so limited, it is likely that development of anything further was never considered anywhere - I could be wrong though.

Care to explain your desire/need for such a thing please @barky-sparky

Exactly that!

Midge proof nets even those manufactured for the job are available. I think that they are held in by magnets. We just use midge proof netting draped across the door. Have considered a ready made one. Canvas or any material could be made and tailored to the shape of any opening with flaps instead, if that was desired. Usually one hard pressed Mrs might make up something with great skill and perfect for the job or should I say someone or Mr in this politically correct world. Do I open doors for anyone these days, its all a bit confusing..🧐😳🤣

Yep - seen the mesh fly screens, but feedback I've heard is usually that they're a PITA due to the magnets not being strong enough to keep the thing in place when you want to enter/exit the van. If you were looking to go down the bespoke route, I reckon robust press-stud fasteners might provide a better fixing solution.

No windows in the back of my van, want to keep the heat in but not feel so enclosed with the side door shut

TBH, a fairly thin material door as described might keep out a draught if it’s well fitted but I doubt if it would do much else for heat retention.

its no different to a tent which can be kept quite warm with a 2kw electric heater. dosnt look like there is such a thing anyway. google not finding anything. I may have to buy a old tent and cut out the door section. just need to find the right one

Actually, I suspect it would be better than the tent and the degree to which it is better would depend on what, if any, insulation there is in the van BUT the material door will be always be the weak spot. Heating a tent of any size is easy enough to do as long as you’re prepared to throw energy at it as heat loss through the material would make it a very inefficient process.

We have a midge netting screen we can hang across the open doorway. It is fastened at the top by three separate lengths of Velcro. Magnets are used down the side. It doesn’t seal the doorway but is sufficient for us, as is the Velcro top fixing.
