Hi all,

I would like to walk to the wreckage of the B29 at Bleaklow in the Peak District. Does anyone have any recommendations? Ideally we would like to walk from the campsite.

Thank you

My home patch!

Maybe Hayfield C&CC site. Very close to the village ( pubs, chippy ) and a nice quiet site. Path up Kinder Scout is literally just down the road.

Nice easy walk on Sett Valley Trail to New Mills for the Torrs and Millennium Walkway too.

It's a challenging hike though. From Google

To hike from Hayfield Campsite to the B-29 'Overexposed' crash site on Bleaklow, you will undertake a challenging 10 to 11-mile circular route via Mill Hill and Bleaklow Head. Expect this rugged moorland hike to take about 5 to 6 hours.

The other alternative is Crowden C&CC site which is a more "rugged" and basic. Similar hike either way.

Enjoy your stay, hope the weather is kind.

Is that the B29 Overexposed?

Best route is up from Old Glossop, no campsite though.

There is an easy scramble up Ashton Clough which takes you past a few bits of embedded Spitfire.

It will be on all of the walking apps, I first did it from Trail magazine back before the Internet.

Hi @ORION thank you for your detailed reply. I will take a look at those campsites.

I have a lot of love for the Peak District since the weekend when we stayed at Laneside in Hope. We walked Lose hill, Bak Tor and Mam Tor. We stoped for a drink in the village on the way down. Just driving in I could not believe how nice the area is and so clean too. (Hence my reason for wanting to explore more)

Hi @CAB thank you for your reply. Yes it is the B29 Overexposed. I did have a look on the all trails app. I would like to try and find a campsite so I do not need to look for parking on the side of the road

I can't help with camping but I've been a few times.
Its a fascinating place.

Not that it will be a problem whilst I type, but make sure the weather is good. It can be very bleak (excuse thepun) up there.

I can highly recommend Crowdecote Campsite near Dragonsback (Parkhouse and Chrome Hills). Lovely spot, pub nearby and lovely walks straight out of the campsite.
