As an engineer myself I also ignored instructions but just did the opposite to you !Yours look different to mine. I fitted mine the other way round with the larger protrusion (the bit with the sticky strip) on the outside face of the window. To my mind this gives better protection to the edge if the glass. Can’t remember reading any instructions. So perhaps I went typical ‘Engineer’ and just ignored them or fitted how I thought it should be. Not saying I’m right you’re wrong. Now I’m curious what others have done.

Will you not have an awkward coloured gap between your windows, or are you reinstating the rubber ?Having removed my OEM rubber to fit the fake quarter panel I can confirm that sticker section is on the outside of the window.

If I understand your ?? correctly, )no egg sucking intended). it refers to the sticky strip (which is on the inside/internal of the rubber ‘U’ channel being on attached to the outside face of the window. This results in the wider rubber portion being on the front face of the window. Stick it on the back, and the smaller section of rubber is on the outside. To my mind much better protection is offered to the exposed edge of the glass if the larger bit of rubber is on the outside. (And it’s much easier to install). Ultimately it’s based on aesthetic preference of the installer. Why would it be sticky on the outside? To what aim?
I purchased a trim part which sticks to the back of the existing window and hides the colour gap you make reference to. With the original rubber part it doesn’t look at smooth IMO and it’s not what the caravelle has eitherWill you not have an awkward coloured gap between your windows, or are you reinstating the rubber ?
Yes correct a factory Kombi. The plot thickens. @Kev.O is yours factory glass? If so I’ll install mine with the thicker side out.
