Just a quick update;
all outstanding costs I encountered have been reimbursed under vw assist
I will definitely getting extended warranty when it runs out

I'm glad that you got all this sorted with a happy ending. I guess your (and others) experiences show that the extended warranties can work well but my own was quite the opposite. In my case, regular occurrences of false adblue readings and related engine lights were never properly sorted by VW under the All In plan and once it expired and problems reoccurred, they washed their hands of me. Mind you, they were also kind enough to offer to investigate and fix it all at my expense and seemed to be mystified when I said that they hadn't been competent enough to fix it when it was under warranty and asked what had changed now it had expired. In the end, I simply got too tired of the debate and contemplated going to the insurance ombudsman but I think I was just ground down and couldn't be bothered. I'll be going to see a local independent soon to see what they say.
