Brake pads - can VCDS tell me which pads??

Hello, sorry couldn’t find tha answer to this so thought I would ask you knowledgable types. Last night our van flagged up on the dash with a yellow/amber brake pad wrning. It also shows on the main screen to check brake pads.

Can you tell which brake pads need replacing using the VCDS, I just wondered if that logged which one is moaning.

Also can I drive with this light on, it’s wheelchair adapted so without it getting around is almost impossible. I rang the dealer this morning and the first appointment we can get is 18th March.

Thanks

Any garage will be able to change the pads for you, the dealer will just charge you a mad amount of money.

Pads aren't expensive and it's an easy job so should be alot of money.

It is a Motability vehicle so has to go to the main dealer, that’s their decision. If it was my car I would do it myself. Would take me a lot longer than you physically fit people but hey that’s just the way it is.

The car had discs and pads all round at the dealers 24k miles ago. Think that cost a Motability £1200 so I agree with the mad amount of money.

The lights come on very earlier on these, you will have plenty of pad left yet, I wouldn’t even worry about it and continue to drive it until your appointment

The madness is that because of a light on the dash we have to also wait for the RAC to attend to say if we can drive it or not. Who says a Motability car is easy motoring

RAC attended and said we can’t drive it, FFS. I know it’s safe based on what you guys say, I get the RAC are covering their arse, it’s madness but I suppose it’s the madness we signed up to when we went with Motability. The RAC will be attending on Thursday to fit the new pads so that’s not too bad.

Still for my curiosity though, does VCDS tell you which wheel has flagged the pads?

I think its only the fronts that have the wear sensors on so I'd say it's the front wheel pads

Front and back have sensors and both can bring the dash light on
From my experience generally the rears seem to wear out first so that would be my guess

T6.1 MY22 has brake pad wear sensor only in front left wheel.
To be exact T6 & T6.1 have left front and right rear sensors up to November 2020, built after that have only front left pad sensor. Though not all T6 have the sensors.

Ref: wiring diagrams of T6 (No.17/7) & T6.1 (No.1/7).

Well, a kind of yes - T6.1 MY22 has brake pad wear sensor only in front left wheel.
Ours is a 2022 and the RAC said it’s the front pads and that the rears look OK. that goes against what @Pauly said normally happens, I wonder why our fronts have gone so quick, I drive around like Miss Daisy, slow and no hard braking.

Sorry i was referencing my T6 where rears always wore out first, havent done enough miles in my 6.1 to find out

Ok cheers, I was concerned there may have been something off with our braking. Happy now you have given that update lol.

We have ACC and last time all wore out at the same time, this time it was the fronts that wore out and the rears are ok.
