Hi there. New to the forum. Hoping someone more clued up than myself can provide a bit of insight.
For a few weeks now sometimes the battery seems a bit sluggish when starting (not all the time)
Last week after a long run with no issues starting the van at the beginning of the day my wife parked up briefly for 15 minutes or so then when she returned to the vehicle the van would start.
Started with a jump from a booster pack.
After driving home 2.5 miles the Van sat at my house for the next five days and last night it started no problem. I didn’t drive it, I was putting a battery voltage meter on it.
This morning it started again. Voltage when engine was off was 12V and when engine was on was reading 13V.
I understand this is lower than it should be however if the alternator was faulty would the voltage have increase to 13V?
Also when engine off battery indicator on the pack I connected to check the voltage stated 60% but when engine was on this changed to 100%.
I’m unsure how to proceed. Initially I was going to fit a new battery but am feeling that if the battery was faulty it wouldn’t have started after sitting idle for five days since the initial breakdown and also the nature of the initial breakdown last week is making me think something else could be at play.
Thoughts would be appreciated.
