Appeasing the significant other - a library

Gradually turning into another van nut
T6 Pro
Every VW T4/5/6 owner will know that buying and paying for your beloved van is a much more fluid concept than the traditional model of vehicle ownership would dictate.

This inevitably leads to potential conflict situations in households of proud and well-meaning VW van owners across our global network, particularly when resource consumption and financial decision making is perceived as ‘hair brained’ and borderline irresponsible by the ‘unenlightened’, sometimes necessitating justification and explanation that leans towards the creative.

The purpose of this thread is to establish a definitive library of explanations, coping mechanisms, creative arguments, tales, and justifications that could serve as a resource for van ‘investors’ old and new when explaining the latest ‘brain dead purchase’ to their significant other in the quest for the elusive perfect van...

The considered contributions of my fellow members would be most gratefully received and freely shared in this thread...

My Mrs is out most of the day but always seems to be in at the exact time when the postman arrives with a parcel
I always have to explain why its needed and roughly have to half the actual cost of each item to stop her having a heart attack
I usually say it'll more than add to the value if/when we ever sell the van
Surprisingly enough though, when I suggested swapping the double seat for her own, leather, heated, swivel Captain seat - she was ok with that????
Women - strange

Ah I see a well-disguised cocktail of the classic ‘include a SO (Significant Other) sweetener purchase’ technique combined with the blatant ‘deny, deny, half and lie’ technique with a sprinkle of ‘good future investment’...respectable skills sir!

Umm... Starts of with... It’s only £20 ( as if it ever was ;)) ....then ...at least I’m not changing the whole vehicle just to get new wheels so as to justify the expense

but never ever try to justify or compare to ..How much the other half spends on hair/makeup and use that as an excuse your never win

If for those thinking of upgraded brakes or Led lights ...always express the safety implications.. “Honest babe it’ll stop quicker :inlove:

ps.. it helps if you let them choose...What leather seats do you want !

...wise words from an evidently experienced hand...

PS the library clearly also needs a catalogue entry for major ‘DON’T DOs’...a glaring oversight in my original posting!

I found “it improves safety” particularly useful when I upgraded to Koni shocks and H&R anti-roll bars!
Thanks @JOG..I have the suspension upgrade scheduled this week so may come in handy...

The modification my wife was most impressed with was me removing the badges on the back.
I’m not really helping am I.

every contribution is treasured, yours highlighting the value of simple, thoughtful counter-measures...sometime less is more lol

DON’T DO entry: never ever ask a fellow forum member how much something cost when in earshot of Senior Management!

When purchasing your next box of T6 goodies, please remember... to ask for forgiveness is easier than to ask for permission.

Also, at any future Forum / Busfest / Camperjam / Caffeine & Machine meets then the 50% rule applies when talking about past, present or future purchases.
Even after applying the 50% rule, the other half's will still think you have paid far too much!!

“Makes the ride much more comfortable” can assist when it comes to those new wheels!

“50% Rule” - fantastic!!!

Last week, I increased the discount I thought I could reasonably get away with and applied the 80% rule to a purchase, and Mrs moomin-j still thought I had paid too much!!

The joys of working n a small office away from the wife's prying eyes, I miss those days.

Dearest even mentioned those days when the van arrived knowing oh too well there will be an influx of deliveries which most certainly will rock the said boat.

I think i might have a chat with next door, ask if they will take my deliveries in for me ;):sneaky:
