Another Plumbing Question

Hello Chaps, after sorting out my drainage problem for me I have another plumbing problem! My nephew has a blocked macerator in his house. From doing a bit of googling it looks like a Broysan. The motor seems to be making a noise but when flushed nothing actually happens. Is this something I can attempt or does he need an engineer? A new one is about £240 and looks pretty simple to swap. But if it can be cleaned or unblocked I’m willing to try that first.

not done it myself as its a shit job, but I know others that have taken them apart and un jammed the chopper upper..

I’m not looking forward to it but he’s skint and I’m currently at a loose end so feel like I should help him out Also it seems the bloke that fitted it ripped him off. He’s only young and it’s his first flat. I was hoping there may be some chemical I could try first. Like one shot.

More than likely just jammed up. You have to be careful what goes down the pan.
Did a few when I was an apprentice, not a nice job. The ones I cleared were jammed with hair. Turn the power off to it and remove the top.

Hair and kitchen paper kill them. I’ve cleared a couple.
My method: Dig a hole in the garden, get some long rubber gloves, bleach, hose pipe, remove it and clean it straight into the hole. The worms will love it!
I doubt you will get a plumber to do it, I think they would just quote to replace.

Avoid chemicals. It will only play havoc with the seals. I've repaired a select few over the years and every time it's been baby wipes.

Personally I would bite the bullet and replace for new. It's not a nice job when you consider what's going to leak out of it when you initially remove it.

Saniflo are a good brand and stocked by many places.

Good luck

He’s only had this one 3 years. Shouldn’t they last longer than that?

You would expect so but most only carry a 1 year warranty.

Generally they are used for secondary W/C's so don't get a massive amount of usage.
