I had an issue with my alarm going off and refusing to turn off so guess that its internal battery is dying and due replacement . (T5.1 so a few years old now) .
Question is do I need a vw replacement or are there proved aftermarket options ?
Thanks in advance .

I don't have vcds so no fault codes to read.

siren is communicate over LIN with BCM,
P&P
question is , is really die ? usyally if die - it lost communication
nothing to do with alarm arming / disarming , alarm can be also use with just indicator blinking - siren is just for "noise " confirmation

I have no experience of this with VW.

However, I have had exactly the same on my old Volvo XC90 and once id dismantled the siren I found the battery was a standard solder-in item available for about a fiver. The old one had failed and leaked over the board, so de-solder it, cleaned up the board, and soldered in tne replacement. Odds are good itll be a similar thing with yours. Nothing to lose by delving in and having a look?

So this is my next job , swap siren out .
Does anyone know if a sounder from a newer van is compatible?
If it is then its a quick cheap fix to just replace it rather than trying g to open it up and mess about soldering batteries in .

Seems mad to buy an old 2nd hand one that probably has just as knackered batteries in as my old one .

I'll answer my own question (being as you lot were no help  )
Yes you can fit a siren off a later van .
