Air Awning repair stitches & steel

Hi all
I have the stitches n steel air awning. Basically it’s split as the sliding door keeps rubbing off the air beam when you open it. I have always eased it from the outside also best I can from the inside. But the air beam has eventually worn through. I’d like about 100mm removing and resealing if anyone knows someone who can carry this out. I could buy a new one but eventually it’ll probably happen again. 100mm removed would definitely be a permanent fix. We’ve always called it a design flaw.

It’s this air beam I’d like to remove 100mm from the end closest to the van. The guide ropes keep the awning pulled taught so it doesn’t need this beam pushing off the side of the van.

Could the introduction of a Kador/drive away kit give you the necessary extra clearance?
Does’t that only add about 25/35mm. I’m looking to reduce the beam length by 100mm as it’s worn the airbeam to the point it’s going to leak. 100mm is a bit of clearance with the door pushing out as it opens.

Time for a new (used) awning? Our own @Dellmassive is selling an Outwell Touring Air shelter. I have one too, but it's not for sale! Just the one Airbeam to the front, you wouldn't have any difficulties with the sliding door. He's even got the poled version for sale too if you've had enough of Air!

I’m not entirely sure that I understand what you’re asking but it it’s wear on the airbeam itself that you’re worried about, why not just put something over the spot that’s wearing - a couple of layers of gaffer tape would probably do and just add more as and when. That said, if I’ve misunderstood, sorry.

I’m just trying to eliminate user error. Grandchildren and wife’s friends if you know what I mean.
I’m aware of its design flaw butted up onto the van body isn’t great. Just thought if I could get it altered , I would before it lets me down. But yes another canopy maybe the answer.
I love its simplicity for overnight. I have a drive away for longer trips away but rarely use it.

How is the beam going to work if you reduce it by 100mm
The awning is held taught by guide lines pulling away from the side of the van. The 100mm reduction will give clearance for the side door. The air beam is a T shape. It’s the bottom of the T I want reducing which is what’s up against the side door.

To repeat what I've said elsewhere on the forum, there is very little in this world that can't be fixed with gaffer tape.

I think the kador kit is the best solution. I know that someone made a foot(ish) wide kit for some reason but there might be something on the market for this too.

Agreed, tape wouldn't repair a puncture but it would stop anything rubbing so much that it caused a puncture.

The only problem with the using a kador strip and figure 8 is that the latter usually comes in 3 or 4 sections and they inevitably leak through the gaps. My solution was to source one long length of it but you might then have storage issues for it (which I resolved but we then just decided not to bother with it and just go straight into the reimo rail).
