After market v3 headlights

Don't bother. I went through the process of trying pretty much every available 'bulb' in mine about 5 years ago.

Halogen bulbs work well in reflector lights, but the small reflectors and light shifting lenses in any projector lights robs too much performance from them. Even the 'best' halogen bulbs in them were barely any better than H4s on dipped beam. Projectors need a stronger, 360 degree light source, which is why HIDs work really well. They produce light which evenly fills the reflector (like a halogen bulb), whereas most LEDs have diodes on opposing side to each other. This means the reflector isn't evenly filled and shadowing can occur. Twenty20 make a LED bulb specifically for projectors. A fella I know fitted some in the aftermarket headlights in his Caddy and they are superb.
Interesting. I was about to consider upgrading bulbs in my H4 T6 lamps. Is there literally no decent upgrade bulb worth buying for these lamps.

Firstly it seems v3 is being referred to here as a generic aftermarket headlamp. The v3 are specifically the THQ LED DLR and sequential indicator light right?

Secondly I ran these for 3-4 years with the standard lamps in no issues but as they aren’t designed for LEDs they wouldn’t be insurable with LEDs whatever as they are illegal (regardless if you inform them or not)

Finally, I bought my van as a panel van and the campervan it is today has many many mods, I listed lots to the insurance company and majority they were not interested in, including the headlamps (assuming they are legal). I now have road legal aftermarket THQ LED lights, the insurance company is not interested

Despite trying several that promised the earth, I couldn't find a Halogen H4 bulb that made a significant difference, I think the design of the reflector is just poor.
Pretty sure VW designed the van body and then put some clear plastic candle covers on the corners.
Who else could design a van where the water runs off the roof and straight into the open cab windows.

That’s extremely useful and saves me getting disappointed, thank you.

So my replacement headlights came today but I’m a bit surprised to see that the main glass front panel is in two pieces.I thought it was cracked when I first saw it but the other lights the same.is this normal ?
