Hi All.

Sorry for longish post.

Currently waiting for my Nutexa Friction Linings (NFL) 340 mm uprated disc kit for 17 “ Wheels to arrive. Spoke to Janet at Nutexa today and hopefully getting shipped next week. 😊

Anyhow, quick query on the back plate.

Mines a T6.1 with 304 mm OEM. The NFL kit comes with ‘all I need’ ie carrier, hoses, disc, pads blah blah. But….. I’m stumped on the Back Plate.

It appears to me, from what I can glean from my local VW parts desk, and the www. that the O/D of the 304 and 340 mm Disc plate is identical at 355 mm. (Sure enough measured mine and O/D 355 mm)

I have two part numbers to reference:

7E0615311A & 7E0615312A which I obtained off this forum after a search for 340 mm back plate.

7E0615311B & ………..312B which, I obtained from VW as they are fitted to mine, so obviously for a 304 mm disc.

When I spoke to VW to get some ‘technical info’ on the 340 mm back plate (quoting number ….311A & 312A) I wanted to order they basically would not tell me much as “it’s not on your van, so we would be unwilling to give you information to allow you to fit it” 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🙄 well thanks for that !!

My local indie parts supplier has conflicting info on the above parts and what size fits what. So they can’t help either (although they were very good at trying TBF).

So question.

1. As the O/D of both is the same, is it just the mounting points that are different for the two variants. (What’s the difference).
2. Has anyone fitted a NFL uprated kit on their OEM 304 mm van and can tell me if I actually need the back plate from a 340 mm van? (I appreciate that if I was fitting a set of T32 OEM brakes, yes I’d need it to match the VW caliper,).
3. Are the part numbers above correct or have I been an arse 🤦‍♂️

Unfortunately as (obviously) my discs and wheels are still on, as van in use I can’t see exactly where back plate bolts to (hub or caliper) otherwise I’d probably be able to answer my own Q2.

Did try and ask NFL but Russ was unavailable, and was hoping to get plates ordered ( if needed ???) prior to kit arriving. If not I’ll just have to offer it up when I get it, and go from there.

Thanks in advance

You will need to change the backplates. The cut outs are larger to allow for the extra bulk on the calipers, though the T6.1 340mm calipers are smaller than the T5.1/T6 variant.

The part numbers ending in A are correct for the 340mm backplates, about £37 quid each retail

Cheers. Very useful. At least I realise I have the correct part number 👍👍. (My local face to face parts desk is ‘passenger car’ only, so they were unable to give the exact specs of the number I supplied. The response I received above was over the phone from a ‘proper commercial parts desk’. Info about cut out now makes sense. This is what I was trying to understand about the subtle differences, so thanks.

I wonder if the cut out can be enlarged? As long as no attachment holes were affected it could save a few quid.

The mounts are the same. You'd have to protect and paint the metal if you cut them as they are prone to rot anyway, by the time you've done that time/materials probably not worth it? They can be had cheaper than a dealer, I think I paid 18 quid a side from LLLParts when I did my T5.1 upgrade - I have a TPS account and they were still cheaper

Thanks for all the replies. 👍 I agree that if I did need bigger plates, then given the price, less hassle to buy (especially now I have the right number). As I said above, I’m hoping that as the kit is an aftermarket, bespoke designed item to specifically replace the 304 mm disc I might be ok. Time will tell when it arrives, but I will update thread to close out in due course incase anyone searches in future.
