6.1 aftermarket headunit

Hello everyone

I've just joined as have just ordered a new 6.1 due for delivery in the next couple of months and wanted to ask a question to all you gurus please.

I didn't order the nav media as not a fan of manufacturers navigation systems and prefer just using android auto / apple car play etc but wanted to know if anyone knew of a aftermarket headunit for the vw 6.1 as the standard one is only a 6 inch screen and wanted to fit a larger screen if possible.

And you did the right thing, factory nav is crap and ridiculously expensive.

First of all, welcome.

The manufacturer upgrade is an expensive option, and like you I choose not to have it. The apple car play option seems to be just as effective and I've read that the VW sat nav functionality isn’t fantastic. There are several threads on here about replacement head units, so just use the search function, and you’ll easily find them.

The only word of caution I’ll sound is around when your van may arrive. There are some very differing experiences and the factory is having some issues. If you’ve only just ordered, a couple of months sounds optimistic. My sept 9th order was due in Jan - I don’t even have a build date yet! And there are many like me, although bizarrely a few have come through on time.

Either way, I’m sure you’ll love it when it does. Between now and then, this forum is a great place to learn and pick up tips and knowledge.

I’m afraid there is next to nothing aftermarket to fit the T6.1, as there is so much more integration that the headunit does compared to older models of Transporters, vehicle settings, warnings, even change the volume/sound of the parking sensors

there is a company who is working towards a aftermarket but I’ve yet to see in the flash how good it integrates ... I know already you lose the use usb c sockets.. but I think that would be soon
