30 - 40L Compressor Coolbox Recommendations

I'm looking at buying a portable compressor coolbox for my kombi/day van conversion (fully fitted fridge is out the question).

There's usually only me n the mrs camping for a weekend so 30-40L seems more than big enough and to keep it easy enough to move around.
I had a Dometic Coolfun CK40D previously but it was a bit of beast to lug around and store when not in use and sold that on with my old van.

Been looking at the Alpicool range (TAW35) which seem to get good reviews for around £200 - and generally any others running an LG compressor.
Outsunny 40L and a TF Extreme 40L which has proper dual zone for around £300.
With Amazon Prime Day coming up I'm expecting there may be some decent deals available.

So does anyone have one they'd recommend or ones to avoid?

I bought this one last year, plenty of room for cold beers after football training :)
Like you I don't want a dedicated fridge so will run this from the Bluetti whilst charging through the cig socket.

I bought the TAW35 last year and found it very useful with the option of having the two compartments either different temperatures or matching temperatures.
This thread has started off my quest to source an internal battery for the alpicool.

Just purchased an internal battery and connector adaptor from the Jackery Solar to the Alpicool.

I noticed on the Amazon pics for the Alpicool TAW35 and the EZGW41 that it looks like it has the option for the internal battery which would be really useful if the leisure battery is getting low. Thanks for the recommendations - will wait n see what crops up in the prime sale tomorrow 👍

Hello, i’m looking for something similar, what did you end up going for if you don't mind me asking?

I ended up going for an Alpicool NLS35 - it's a 23L dual zone compressor coolbox. It doesn't have the battery facility like some others listed above but I was more interested in keeping the size down as I don't need anything anywhere near as big as most of the 40L ones. Cost £165 ish from Amazon.

How long would a 45w compressor fridge last on your typical leisure battery with solar. Apart from a couple of LED lights and charging phones no other power demands ie no inverter, water pumps, diesel heater etc.

We want a similar fridge and looking for a set up to last a long weekend say 3 nights without mains power.

We have a Dometic CRE50 fridge and it will run for 2-3 days on a 100ah lithium but without solar.

So it depends on your battery type/capacity and also the amount of charge your solar can put back in.

That sounds doable then with a basic set up and a bit of solar. Odds are we’ll be on hookup but it would be nice to have capacity for a weekend without!

I have one for sale but I'm in Bristol.

Looking to get a 40L ish Alpicool compressor ‘chest’ fridge - why are there so many different models?? Struggling to know which one is best? Amazon seems to have different models to the official web site so possibly retired stock?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

A portalable fridge or a fitted fridge?

I have bought 2 Alpicool TWW35s in just over 2 years and both have failed miserably, the first 1 I paid £395 bought off a company in wales and it stopped working 3 weeks out of warranty, I contacted them and they just didn’t want to know.
I bought a second one off eBay with 5 years warranty quoted, it too has packed up at 14 months old, I’ve sent the company messages by eBay and they’re not replying, I’ve contacted eBay customer services who have said there’s nothing they can do as out of their 30days returns policy, and they’ve told me to contact Citizens Advice what a scam, anyway I've been an eBay customer for 20 years and I’ve now cancelled my account. So beware Alpicool products.

I've been very impressed with my Alpicool NLS35 I bought. It's lived in the back of my van pretty much full time since buying it at the end of summer last year. Runs off my Ecoflow portable power bank for the weekend no bother. I didn't need anything as big as 40L as there's usually just me n the mrs. It's plenty big enough for a few cold beers, bacon n sausages for morning butties and a small freezer section too.

I bought the NL40 last year and I’ve been very happy with it.
Cooling performance is excellent, and I also use it outside the van, for example during a BBQ in the garden.

It survived a very hot summer holiday running on 230V in the awning without any issues. I chose this model because it fits under the Ovano in the drawer when not in use. In practice, it sits most of the time behind the passenger seat, wedged in with the ventilation opening pointing towards the door.
It fits perfectly: the little one even uses it as a footrest, and I can easily grab a snack or drink while driving and the flippable lid enables us to use it behind both seats.

Before that, I ordered the T36, but I wasn’t satisfied with the noise level. The dual compartments are useful, but I wasn’t really planning to freeze anything, so that feature didn’t add much value for me.

I know some people may laugh at this, but the Bluetooth feature on the T36 was actually quite handy. It allowed me to check whether the fridge was running while driving. With the NL40, I’ve forgotten to switch it on once or twice (or sixteen times), because it doesn’t automatically power on when you plug in the 12V socket - you have to press the on button.
