Hi All, my van won't pass emissions on MOT it uses 1 litre of oil every 500 mile and runs and drives perfect , but Its 10 k for a new engine and turbo's, What's it worth as it is please 83,000 miles full service history and in very good condition.

CFCA engine?
Pretty much impossible to give a value based on that amount of information, try one of the ‘we buy any car / van’ type companies.

Once it’s sold please post the Reg # to someone else the opportunity to avoid it.

Post a photo, might be worth more breaking it. Is it DSG?

I was in the same boat 18 month ago. We came to the decision after looking at a few newer ones that we wouldn't find another bus with the spec or condition as ours, even with putting 15k towards it. We ended up buying new engine, turbo ect from tps and whilst we were at it replaced all suspension and braking components. Only thing oem is exhaust, gearbox and interior. So I've ended up with a low mileage bus that I know everything about. BUT only do this if you have NO intentions of selling it.
Am I glad I did this? Yeah, I absolutely love the bus now. Is my wallet glad? Absolutely not, but on a plus note now, I've got wife buying bits for it because she shares my love for it to now.

Is the DPF intact? I’m very surprised that you say it drives well because the resulting soot from effectively burning a teaspoon of engine oil every 2 1/2 miles would knacker a DPF in no time.
If the DPF isn’t intact that is no doubt the reason it failed the MOT, obviously the oil consumption is still the major issue.
With that much oil being consumed be very careful that the engine does not ‘runaway’, that is a very dangerous situation to be in.
You need to identify where the failure lies:
1. Cylinder bores / piston rings?
2. Valve seals?
3. Turbocharger seals?
4. PCV?

Yes we're going to keep it , I'm going to cash a pension in to finance it .

Got sorted 4 years ago at dark side developments, oil analysis report and compression test carried out ,egr blanked off and dpf gutted and remapped.

So you have done everything the experts recommend regarding pre emptive maintenance.
Egr delete , compression test , oil analysis etc , and yet it still went pop 4 years later?.
Do you think the new engine won't do the same ? Or is your thinking its got another 80000 miles in front of it , which will do you ?
Good luck with whatever you decide

The warning was evident on the compression test ( if I'm reading it correctly ).
A maximum deviation of 70 between cylinders, and yours showed 60 , so nearly out of spec??
And compression out of spec.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing , but that was a red flag.

Mentioning the remap and deletes earlier may have helped.
The oil analysis was a clear indication that there were severe issues with the engine;
More than 10% fuel dilution, Millers caution is 2%, failure at 4%, oil viscosity was too low as a result.
66 ppm Al, Millers failure is at 30 ppm, almost certainly piston material, possibly EGR cooler.
33 ppm Sn, Millers failure is at 25 ppm, possibly from the failing EGR cooler, wherever it came from it’s highly abrasive.

The compressions are low and out of balance indicating a worn engine.
Mapping a worn engine for more power is a really bad idea.
Removing the DPF on a worn engine that’s burning oil is bound to result in a MOT failure.
I’m surprised that DD didn’t advise an engine rebuild / exchange.

Miller regard the soot limit as 2% otherwise the viscosity cannot be determined.
All soot is from combustion, whether first time around or re-circulated through the EGR. An oil and filter change would be a good idea.

Here’s the MIller failure criteria

Thank you for the input , but I not a mechanic, but i will be having a new engine fitted at retro resis.

Bulk buy you oil from tps when they have an offer on. I do mine every 3-4k, but when it was first fitted I did it after 500 miles as a flush

Thanks , I have always used miller's oil EE performance Nano drive 5w30 and it reduced my oil consumption considerably compared to quantum .
