Can any electrical gurus please check my plan so far? So i have decided to do the first fix of the electrics today. My plan is to have a 12V Fusebox behind the furniture, so i have run a 16mm2 flex cable from my busbar to the rear of the van, via the B Pillar and under the window:
The...
A few months back I decided to sell my previous camper and start all over, simply because the previous build was pretty much 'off the shelf', and while it was done well, much of it was unused. I guess a day van fits my needs better.
I decided thats as the vast majority of the cooking was done...
...remake the ends once it's installed.
When the van was converted I got the guy to install a PV panel on the pop top so I already have a cableroute down into the back corner where there's space to mount the router alongside other charging/electrical bits and pieces, and I can pick up a fused...
I fitted Vanshades to my T6.1 yesterday, they look amazing. BUT it was not as easy as the videos make out, I think they lull you into a false sense of security. Here's my experience in case it helps anyone else:
Sliding door: pretty much per the install videos for the lock side, the left side...
I'm a bit prone to waffling so I'll try keep it as brief as I can
If you have any questions or want some close up photos let me know
I'll post an update after a good time so you can see how it's getting on.
TLDR: I really like it!
Not an ad - I lack the influence and clout to get this for free...
How have you found it? I’m debating going this route as I can just transfer it to another vehicle if I ever need to, but I’m trying to work out where I can put it, as I’m doing a Kombi with an ovano style setup, so no furniture in the back to hide it in.
I’d like to be able to charge it from...
I had my diesel heater fitted at Cosmic and they went above and beyond. Cable routing was a nightmare for where I wanted the controller etc etc and they just did it no problem and no extra charge.
I had an issue after a couple of months that they sorted immediately (wasn’t their fault either)...
Hi
I previously asked for feedback on my proposed electrical install. I was guided by members to have a deep dive into the prior responses / topics on the forum. Finding this in particular by dellmassive plus other posts and a bit of spreadsheet work has helped me get a handle of my usage...
Since my last I have joined the cables, passed them through a black watertight box and fed them down through the roof. The black watertight box was then bonded down with Tiger Seal. It's fully bonded and sealed against water ingress. The solar panel is banging out the charge even on the dullest...

So, for completeness, and to help others, the large grommet circled in the first post doesn’t provide a cableroute through into the offside rear quarter.
The grommet just behind the rear wheel is the one to use.
I’ve run a cable through from inside the rear quarter and out to the tow bar...
planed to have only one at first but last year on a three months trip to europe and only driving about 1 hour between stops and not using electric hookup was not enough , and two 25amp dc-dc chargers was the most i would dare to goo without swooping out the 10mm2 cable and all the work that...
I ended up taking it into VW to resolve apparently they told me mine had been incorrectly routed at factory 😤
However when I got it back it did exactly the same a few days later but this time I disconnected cable at handle and used a pair of pliers and pulled like mad...which eventually...
Can you show me what the carplay icon looks like on this? my van has the same unit (i think) the main home screen and dab radio bit look the exact same but im struggling to get it to work
Had mine for 2 years now. It's bob on, would defo recommend. The rear camera cable is a bit of a pita to route and install, especially through the rear barn door rubber boot, but it's worth it in the end.
Thanks for the tip everyone!
I went to the hardware shop and bought some curtain wire (spiral spring encased in a vinyl outer) but it was too flexible for the long run up the C pillar and it bent before it could get around the corner. I also bought some 3mm braided wire (for sun shades etc)...
I've got most, if not all the power options that are available.
the main one i use is the:
12v leisure battery -> fused Anderson quick connect to 12v socket -> 12v USB-C PD plug -> USB-C PD to SL plug cable.
or
12v leisure battery -> fused Anderson quick connect to 12v socket -> 12v-19v SL...
