I’ve built a standalone ESP32-C3 BLE telemetry display for campervan/off-gridbattery systems. It uses a circular touchscreen display and reads data directly over Bluetooth LE, so there’s no requirement for Home Assistant, internet access, or external gateways.
At present, support is mainly...
Hi Guys,
Looking into the world of electrics!
I’m planning on running a 12V system for fridge which would be on a low setting (for cold beers), a diesel heater (which I’d like the option of having running throughout the night if required) and some lights/reading lights and phone charging...
It was never planned but yesterday we purchased an Opus Trailer camper.
Never thought I would own a trailer but it's fantastic build and ideal for our family needs.
It comes with a hook up and leisure battery setup, but I need to adapt this quickly as we camp offgrid without hook up the...
No problem doing this.
If it's running through a consumer unit in the van the RCD may not work as expected but the MCB should operate under a fault, or the Bluetti will cut out.
Either way you should be fine .
Hi, I would be very grateful for feedback on my proposed refresh of the leisure battery system on my 2013 T5.1. Current set up is an 8 year old Travelvolts SCR with the addition of a 150w Solar panel on pop top. Van is currently used for weekends and weeks away using hookup. I am planning to...
Hi,
Wondering if anyone could help tell me if my leisure battery is dead? My van doesn’t get much use over winter and I didn’t drive or plug it in very often. I have a solar panel but there obviously wasn’t enough to keep it going.
I noticed when I went to camp in December all power was off...
Hi, This is my first post have been lurking the forums and digesting loads of great information. My question is would i be better off with a sargent set up or a victron type one?
Mainly going to be offgrid , intend to fit solar to roof and a lipo battery, opinions gratefully recieved,
Thanks in...
Apologies in advance for my ignorance on this topic; I'm trying to learn. The below is the view into my leisure battery hole. The conversion was done in 2018 and I'm now upgrading it myself, after the AGM battery has slowly died. I have replaced the leisure battery with the ECO-WORTHY 12V 100Ah...
Hello.
I have a Renogy DCC50S charging my AGM leisure battery from both my engine & solar suitcase (for offgrid camping). I rarely use the PV but last time I tried it it wasn't charging the battery through the DCC50S. Luckily I always carry the separate croc connectors to the PV output leads...
I run a mixture of both. Leisure battery with a 1000w invertor to run the starlink and charge a Jackery when needed.
I have a Jackery 1000 v2 with a 20 amp charger to my leisure battery. But have also run a mains extention lead to run starlink when needed.
I have an unusual setup but I can...
Just my tuppence, I fully intended on installing solar when converting my van, but I haven't got round to it yet and haven't yet been in a scenario where we've run out of juice from the leisure battery. I suppose it depends how often you expect to be offgrid.
It's not perfect, when you simulate a grid outage obviously it can pick it's moment and go offgrid pretty smoothly - so much so that the hair trigger UPS on the main network doesn't notice.
When it happened in anger recently as luck would have it the EV was charging so the house battery was...
Can’t recommend someone I’m afraid. Put up some pics of what you already have fitted (batteries, switches, fuse boxes, chargers etc) and have bought to help us identify them. It’s also useful to understand what you are using the van for and what kit you want to power (fridge, usb chargers...

There is quite a difference between trickle charging a battery to see you through the winter months and keeping the leisure battery charged to (for example) keep your fridge running while you’re offgrid...
Wondering if anyone has any experience with this….
I have a recently replaced 110ah leisure battery and run the usual things (led spots lights, phone chargers, 12v fridge) when off-grid. I get about 12-13v when fully charged and this will give me about 12-hours with above mentioned items...
Solar panel install looks tidy and the Noco Genius will charge a lithium battery too apparently but I'm guessing the install is probably offgrid and limited by the modest AGM battery?
